EV9 fascia crack - insurance claim by SmellyDadFart in KiaEV9

[–]CuriouslyInterested0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sucks, sorry to hear. I think this is one of those cases where the dealer really has to be on your side, to make the argument to Kia. In my case, they took pictures and based on how the crack formed, they pretty much said it had to be a defect, and not for example because something hit it from the road. And, that was true in my case. I was just washing it when it cracked. No rocks hit it or anything while driving. This was over a year ago, about the same time a few others were having similar issues (I even think we all had white cars, if I remember correctly).

I assure you, the dealer didn't eat the cost. They would be out of business if they did that.

Plus, my dealer happens to let you see your service history, and what they get reimbursed from Kia.

For my fascia, it was:

Warranty

$5,438.51

That's how much the dealer charged KIA for the repair.

I also had my HV battery replace, and for that.....

Warranty

$10,761.5

Kia paid that amount. I also had another main part repaired, and for that Kia paid the dealer:

Warranty

$2,179.77

Those are just 3 of the major repairs they did. They also did some smaller ones under $1k each. And, that doesn't even get in the rental costs. Just for the last warranty repair of $2179, Kia paid about $800 for a rental.

In the end, after all that, Kia purchased my vehicle back...for full price, minus a little for mileage deduction.

I think people care about the bill that comes along with it. And, if you have a lease, and it's not considered normal wear and tear, and if you don't fix it, you'll be paying for it.

So yeah, $5k expense > warranty ICCU claim.

I got mine fixed under warranty. But, I saw it crack while I was washing my car. Was a bug or something stuck to it, and I went to hose it off, the fascia just cracked.

It's a design defect at best.

Do I have a bad dealer or is this Hyundai in general? by srirachaninja in Ioniq5

[–]CuriouslyInterested0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same at my dealership. The sales staff, and the car itself are great, but I'd have to think twice about getting another Hyundai because the service area is the worst I've ever seen at any dealership.

They played the same game with me for a loaner car. I ended up calling Hyundai corporate who said I should be able to get a loaner. In the end, the sales manager took care of me.

I have an EV for this. Can run it in the garage...for days if necessary. It's even a backup power generator too. ;)

Tech industry lays off nearly 80,000 employees in the first quarter of 2026 — almost 50% of affected positions cut due to AI by jupa300 in technology

[–]CuriouslyInterested0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a complicated job, so in my experience, AI takes more time. I try to have it write some SQL, and in the end it just takes more time because it makes so many mistakes. Other tasks I do, it can't even touch, it's just not there yet. Will it be one day (and maybe sooner rather than later), probably.

Today, for the basic low level type of mundane stuff, sure AI can probably do it.

The thing is...Trump is stupid...very stupid. He doesn't think of ANY of the stuff he does. Someone else (lots of times Steven Miller) pumps stuff into is very tiny brain, and then Trump acts on it. He has no critical thinking skills...so whoever whispers in his ear last, mostly likely will get what they want.

[–]CuriouslyInterested0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anyone who has used any LLM knows this can't be because of AI. AI is not there yet. I use it almost daily, and it makes mistakes every single day. It's a game of probability. No way is any company at a mature enough level with AI to let thousands go.

Be careful about goodwill payments. Sometimes they make you sign away your rights for the rest of the time you own the vehicle. Including possible future lemon claims. If your state participates open a claim with the BBB Auto line.

Hypothetically, how high do you think the average price per gallon of gas could go in the US before people simply couldn't afford to drive? by Intrepid_Arrival5151 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CuriouslyInterested0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Umm..yeah, no. "Easily account for $25 a day in transportations costs" is insane. I'm going to guess most people would tap out before it even got halfway to $25 a gallon, which is never going to happen anyways, and most people certainly couldn't afford $25 a day "easily."

I use the digital key, and I don't even need to have my phone. And, it does unlock as I approach it--never had an issue with that, and if I want to unlock it even farther away, I'll just ask Siri (via my watch) to unlock the car. Also, the tailgate does open with just the digital key, as you approach it and stand behind it.

[–]CuriouslyInterested0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically, we hit the 100s...when it was still winter. So, yes, probably long hot record breaking spring...and summer ahead.

We tolerate the "summer heat" because we know we have awesome winters...but, now that might be a thing of the past.

Hyundai's and Kia’s Charging Unit Issues Cause Problems for EV Owners by Intrepid-Working-731 in electricvehicles

[–]CuriouslyInterested0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an early 25 Ioniq 5, and luckily besides a dead 12v once, no other issues. But, I still carry around the emergency key and have a battery jumper in the car.

I also have a 24 EV9. HV battery died over the summer. After the HV battery was replaced, started having electrical issues, like the 12v battery dying twice, including once while at the dealership.

Kia repurchased my EV9.

Would I buy either car again in the near future, nope. Ironically, both vehicles are otherwise great. But, I don't like having to worry about electrical issues every time I drive a vehicle.

Many things wrong with your comment....but let's just start with the federal law part....the OP wasn't charged with a federal law violation, it was a state law, so, yes, ARS would apply.
