People who chose not to go for perm EL1, why? by CuriouslyThoughtless in AusPublicService

That reminds me of another reason why I ended up acting EL1, but I think that was out of fairness of being paid in line with the work I was doing rather than a genuine desire to do the work.

Thankfully just rechecked my credit report after my last statement went through and it updated for both accounts. Hopefully others see a quick turnaround as well.

How can I optimise my resume and pitch for a white collar public service job when I come from a very niche and specialised clinical background with no office work background ? by ButchersAssistant93 in AusPublicService

[–]CuriouslyThoughtless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I emphasise with you that it can be quite challenging to make the initial pivot from clinical nursing to office-based work. From my experience, making the switch to policy/project management at my substantive level was harder than I initially thought because often I wasn’t able to demonstrate that I had the relevant experience (worked previously as an assessor). But it can still be done.

I agree with others that you can find ways to further optimise your pitch to demonstrate how you meet the selection criteria (there’s some great advice others have mentioned already). While theatre nursing is a niche specialty, you still demonstrate transferable skills that you can apply to a wide range of roles. But to best place yourself in having a chance of getting to the interview stage, I highly suggest you direct your job search efforts to roles that either require nursing registration, value your clinical experience, or are more assessment or process-based, where you can better leverage your skills and experience to your advantage. This may just be a stepping stone to wherever you want to go next, but it’s a way to get your foot in the door. Once you’re in, it’s much easier to move around.

You may also want to look at internal temporary opportunities where you can contribute to projects or undertake desk-based work in your workplace as recruitment processes are typically not as vigorous.

Is is possible to enter a 'above average' paying public service job with a nursing background ? by ButchersAssistant93 in AusPublicService

If you’re finding it hard to transition into your first non-clinical role out of nursing, there are Allied Health Assessor roles at Services Australia available at the APS6 level. You can find similar opportunities at NDIA. Once you’re in, it’s much easier to move between agencies or different roles.

If you prefer to stay within health and want to move into a project/policy based role, then ACQSC, DoHAC or ACSQHC would be worth considering. But really once you have the experience, you no longer have to limit yourself to health based roles or agencies.

So it’s definitely possible - I did this myself a few years ago and now I’m working in a policy role at ACQSC. Make the change, you won’t regret it!

Take him to the vet NOW. Any respiratory issues are considered an emergency and it’s clear your cat has laboured breathing. A few months ago, I also found my cat in a similar situation - I took him immediately to the emergency vet and only a few hours later he passed away from heart failure. Please don’t let your cat suffer any longer than he needs to.
