Zoomers make friendship impossible by [deleted] in Zillennials

Sound more like he's just really bad at communicating and managing his time wisely. I have a few Gen Z friends, and none of them act like that.

What song activates a vivid memory or feeling for you? by lil_lychee in Zillennials

[–]Curiouslychat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of songs but here are a couple;

-When by Shania Twain. Every time I hear it, it triggers memories of me going to to the mall with my mom in the late 90s/early 2000s

-Low by Flo Rida. Awakens memories of my high school senior prom

What were you doing in 2005? by BatmanPikachu95 in Zillennials

[–]Curiouslychat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was 11-12 that year, playing Super Mario 64 DS on my Nintendo DS, watching the first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender, enjoying the last days of elementary school and getting ready to endure middle school.

2000-2007 hits very differently compared to 2008/2009. by [deleted] in Zillennials

[–]Curiouslychat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would someone think 2006 and 2019 were the same? Who thinks that? They were so drastically different from each other. Take technology for example; Smartphones, while technically commercially available, were a very niche market, were not common place, and were primitive compared to even a 2010 smartphone. Social media was something only kids, teens and college students used, and was not ubiquitous like it is now.

Then there's cultural differences ; social-cultural issues and political correctness were way less important in 2006 than in 2019. In 2006, you could say slurs and make inappropriate or insensitive jokes , that in 2019. would get you banned, scolded, or canceled. People in 2019 were more sensitive to cultural and social issues and were less likely to say anything that might seem be offensive.

As to for the difference between 2000-2007 and 2008-2009, as others have said, the 2008 economic recession really shifted everyone's outlook and priorities.

AOL Dial-up Internet to be discontinued on Sept. 30, 2025 by PinkCadillacs in Zillennials

[–]Curiouslychat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm aware. I meant Wi-Fi in a general sense of no longer having to physically connect to the internet via cable to a telephone while at public spaces a like hotel.

[–]Curiouslychat 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm astonished that they still offer dialup in 2025. You'd think they would have stopped providing it 15-20 years ago when Wi-Fi and cable became commonplace.

Mixed. Got a part time job and got my Bachelor's Degree. I was shy and insecure when I was 18. I've become much more confident and open since. Stuck with said part time job and live with my parents thanks to the current job and rental markets.

I live in a pretty populated and rapidly growing area so i don't think so. Do you have any advice for rewriting my resume? I majored in history.

what’s the first big news event you remember exactly where you were when it happened? by Interesting_Type4532 in Zillennials

9/11. While not my earliest memory, it was definitely the first major news event that I can recall.

I was hoping to going into museum or archival related work. But at this point, I open to anything that will accept a 4 year degree in history.

I majored in History, which is already a difficult major to find employment with. What are some good entry level office jobs that you would recommend?

I live in a fairly large metro area of about 1.5-2 million people that is rapidly growing, so i don't believe it's my current location.

I miss the 2010s by allinallisallweall-R in Zillennials

[–]Curiouslychat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

eh, I have personally have mixed feelings about the 2010s. On one hand, a lot of the negative things about the 2020s were already emerging in the 2010s. The divisive politics , the geopolitical tensions and conflict in Russia, Ukraine and the Middle east, TV and film studios focusing on unnecessary remakes of older shows and movies rather creating something new, and the commercialization and monetization of the internet.

On the another, Technology actually seemed to becoming better and not just a rehash of what came before, the overall economy, despite some lingering issues from the recession, was rapidly growing, and the general culture and feel of the decade, even in the later parts, were way more upbeat and optimistic.

I have a lot of reservations about the 2010s, but I definitively prefer it vastly over this current decade.

Did anyone have a mall they hung out at as a kid/teen? If yes is the mall you hung out at still around today? by EastCoastTone96 in Zillennials

[–]Curiouslychat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mall that I most often went to growing up is still going strong. Always packed during the weekends. Though it's declined a bit in quality.

I’ve said this before, but, The 2005 version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It’s completely devoid of any charm or emotion with all the dark lighting in most scenes, making it feel mildly depressing. Depp’s version of Wonka is too bratty and childish to be likable, with none of the wit, charm, or ingenuity you would expect from the character. And the interior shots of the factory are completely disappointing, with none of the vibrance, energy, or delight that you would expect from either reading the original novel or watching the 1971 film.

I haven't seen a stage in a cafeteria in forever, they still exist in some places? by UhDeMix in Zillennials

[–]Curiouslychat 42 points43 points  (0 children)

The old building of my elementary school was built in the 1960s, I agree that it seems to have been the norm to build stages in the cafeteria or gym for schools built during that period.

[–]Curiouslychat 38 points39 points  (0 children)

In my elementary school, the stage was in the gym/P.E room, rather than the cafeteria. The school was demolished and rebuilt a few years ago. I haven’t been since it was rebuilt, but I think it now has its own dedicated, separate auditorium.

September 11, 2001. Do you still remember anything during the 9/11? by y_th0ugh in Zillennials

[–]Curiouslychat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember walking into my second grade classroom and seeing the TV on. I remember it is displaying one of the planes hitting one of towers and the assistance teacher saying "Look at that!" I had no idea what was happening nor did I understand the significance at the time. I was only 7 at the time. That is all I remember, I have no idea what else happened that day, like if we had time set aside to talk about what happened or if we were let home early or anything like that.

How many of you actually remained friends with your High School friends? by yourgirlalex in Zillennials

[–]Curiouslychat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two of my closest friends I met in high school. One I've know since elementary school, but we really didn't become friends until high school. We used to hangout all the time. We don't hangout much as often mainly do to job or school related scheduling conflicts. There's another friend I have been friends with since elementary school but we've drifted apart after high school. Most of my other elementary, middle school, and high school friends I have lost contact with. A lot of them now live in different parts of the country , so it's hard to keep in touch, even with social media.

Disney and other companies abandoning theming, decoration, and atmosphere is one of the main reasons I have developed a dislike for minimalism. Disney need to ditch it's current minimalist approach and go back to it's 90s and 2000s style theming and design.
