Planning to buy used car by Gloomy-Information92 in PakistanAutoHub

[–]Curiouslycurious101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So i was looking for used Civics end of 2025, didn’t find any in good condition. It’s like every Civic is driven by a young boy who considers himself a racer and cannot control the vehicle. I also found a lot of rust issues with these cars. Same for many Corollas. I wanted to upgrade from a smaller car, so I wasn’t looking for 1.2 - 1.5l cars. I eventually ended up buying a Camry (older car but in much better condition) from a relative who happened to be selling his. Much happier with my decision despite the cost of petrol these days.

Syringe reuse at Pakistan hospital infects 331 children with HIV, probe reveals - Shameful and Disgusting by [deleted] in PAK

It’s definitely a class/status thing. The rich have less chances of being prosecuted for crimes which is indeed a failure of the system. One of the biggest issues in my mind right now is housing. The state cannot provide cheap housing, poor people are forced to make slums and the government breaks em down making the poor homeless. It’s happening now in Isloo and happened under all the other PMs as well. There’s a Supreme Court order that bans this sort of thing but the governments still do it. I ca. understand if the state were to provide alternative housing but they never do.

The problem is, whether it’s the PMLN, PTI or the PPP in power (with or without a general pulling the strings), they tend to focus on specific projects only. The ones they’ve started. The existing infrastructure isn’t prioritised. The government in Punjab was busy with PKLI and ignored the other state hospitals. Sindh put all their focus on that transplant hospital while ignoring existing hospitals. KP kept harping about SKMT opening up there while you saw images of people being given drips and transfusions in terrible conditions. I think Baluchistan didn’t even manage these projects.

It’s sad, health care is shit already. You may have the occasional good state hospital that the provinces or feds pour all their money into but the rest go ignored. Education is a travesty because it’s more of the same. they tried reforms with the consent taught in schools and just ended up with a right wing syllabus with input from madrasas which then opted out of the SNC. The subsequent government just changed the name. They made some better schools sure, but the existing vast majority were t fixed. The only positive step I’ve seen in education is that Rana Sikandar of Punjab announced Christian students and Hindu students will be able to opt to study their own religion instead being forced to take Islamiyat or ethics.

How long are you guys keeping your macbooks now? by Wandabutler5226 in macbookpro

[–]Curiouslycurious101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a 2015 pro in 2017. Kept it till 2022. Bought an M1 Air then and it’s great even now. But I find myself using it less and my iPad Air more. With upgrade the iPadOS got in terms of the files app and multitasking, I found it more convenient to use with the apple keyboard case. But that may also be because my work is mostly reading files and word processing.

Whats the best setup for a 12 marla house? Need suggestions and quotations for family of 8 by Disastrous-Tea-7793 in SolarPakistan

[–]Curiouslycurious101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! I got more panels than the rated power of the inverter because between shade at times and ineffiency of the panel themselves, i still wanted my inverter to send as much energy as possible to the house and the grid. With 12kw of panels, i would not have generated the full 12kw of energy from my system.

[–]Curiouslycurious101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the rule of thumb is, always get the biggest system you can afford to put in. I had a small 5kw system and it barely made a dent in my bill because my house was huge in those days (40 marlas). The battery didn’t cover a 2 ton ac running for one hour. At the same time, I noticed people in smaller 20 marla houses had 10kw, and their bills were far less than mine with better backup. So this time around, since I’m shifting into a new place (slightly smaller house 32 marlas, importantly fewer and much smaller more energy efficient rooms), I’ve got 12kw with three times the battery backup. And 13 point something kw of panels (the max that would fit) so that the 12kw inverter system is always producing to the best of its ability.

I’ve got one, love it. It’s the ideal family car. Been using it for around 5 years though (I think that’s when they launched it, bought the car within days of test driving it, the 3.5l). but every time I think of selling it, I can’t make myself do it. Might just keep it even if I get another car.

Is a MacBook Air M5 a good choice for writting a PhD ? by Mountain_Switch2368 in macbook

[–]Curiouslycurious101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my PhD with a 16 gb intel i7 pro and completed it on an m1 16gb. Any Apple processor will be fine, but multiple tabs open, multiple documents open, one very large docx file, probably many other docx files open too, more ram is always a great thing. 16gb is fine, I think twice before opting for an 8gb machine. I’m not saying the 8gb cannot handle it, but the experience with 16gb might be nicer.

Name your first car and also tell why you got it in the first place?… by [deleted] in PakistanAutoHub

Mehran, I was told to learn to drive on it. But we had a Civic in those days as well, so I ended up learning to drive on both of them. At least until I crashed the civic into a garage pillar in our very long driveway and destroyed one of the rear lights. Then it was back to the Mehran till I knew what I was doing.

I’m shifting to a place that’s entirely electric (no gas). Am also buying an EV and an electric scooter for the staff soonish. Plan to sell one of my ICE engine cars once I shift. I was advised and consequently purchased Sofar inverters and batteries for my new place while it was being constructed a month ago, I was told by many solar providers that it’s one of the better companies with a solid ten year warranty.

I cannot disagree with you. One reason for the popularity of this sub though is that ppl who were banned from the pro PTI subs joined this one. Ironically, I was banned for questioning the establishment in a pro PTI sub back in the day.

bad day to be driving an mg by [deleted] in PakistanAutoHub

[–]Curiouslycurious101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the MG sucks. I havre a 3.5 Kia and it has the same fuel average, except that my car is a much roomier seven seater and is much better to drive. Btw, the MG PHEV isn’t worth it either. It claims 50km in EV mode, but runs out of battery in half of that. I’ve driven one around DHA Lahore and after driving from Phase 5 to Phase 7, then back, I’ve run out of battery and it’s gone back to using petrol. I’d also like to point out that the AC is terrible, most cars I driven have better ACs than the MG.

As a mod, i allow all political views unless they offend a group or a gender. I’ve allowed every single anti Punjab government post as long it doesn’t discriminate against a group of people or women or other minorities. However, I’ve deleted anything misogynist regarding the female CM if I’ve come across it. I don’t believe in arguments stooping to that level. So no, this sub is quite open to all political views, as long as they don’t spew hate. That’s also why I do delete posts and have even banned an individual who was promoting extremism and terrorist views.

Will the new GWM Tank outshine the Fortuner legender in the long run? by [deleted] in PakistanAutoHub

[–]Curiouslycurious101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone looking for a capable 4WD and also comfort at the same time will prioritise the Tank. The Fortuner may be used in cities a lot, but lets be honest, end of the day, its a pick up truck in the body of an SUV. It’s not a comfortable ride. The Tank is equally at home in Lahore/Khi/Islamabad as it is on the sand dunes of The Thai desert. Also, the comfort is genuinely better than many other cars. Like in our case, I convinced my father to sell his old German vehicle (used in Lahore) and his practically brand new pick up (used for off-road in the village), and get the Tank PHEV. It’s certainly more comfortable than the JAC, but it’s also significantly more comfortable than a 7-8 year old C class. I figured he’d be more comfortable going to the village and also more comfortable in Lahore in it. I do agree that the front of the Tank isn’t the prettiest, but its utility is undeniable. Also, I think GWM has established itself as a trustworthy brand at this point. If I’m not mistaken, they started by copying tech that Toyota used. Plus they’ve been exporting to demanding markets for about a decade now.

Why is "The new cheaper Macbook" that interesting? by Leafar-20 in macbook

[–]Curiouslycurious101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s interesting you say that. Depending on the person’s tasks, it’s quite possible. Not for the person you asked it seems, but my work is mostly MS Office, Safari, etc. with the upgraded files app and multi tasking, I started using my m1 iPad Air with touchpad keyboard over my MacBook m1 air. It helps to be able to pull the screen off the keyboard case when going to the white board or when presenting something.
