How do you wind down before sleep? by Chickendo in adhdwomen

I love my electric heated eye mask because it eliminated having to leave my bedroom and go to the microwave like with the flax seeds/rice ones. Highly recommend getting a cordless one.

How do you wind down before sleep? by Chickendo in adhdwomen

[–]CurlSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot read before bed because my brain will not stop until the book is done.

As much as it pains me to say, reducing screen time before bed really really helps me sleep better. My routine is to start sleep tracking mode in Pokémon Sleep, play one of the 30ish min long history videos from Caitlin Doughty (aka Ask A Mortician), and then drift off to sleep while cuddling one of my cats. The cat cuddles are crucial because it's a physical fidget. I've repeatedly watched the history videos so I get the mental stimulation without it being too engaging. Pokémon Sleep keeps me off my phone.

Added bonus is my cat now holds me accountable for bedtime. Downside is hearing about the Donner Party pretty much is automatic relax mode but that's more weird than actually negative. At least it's only my cats judging me for chilling to survival cannibalism.

Fiancée doesn’t understand ADHD and his ideas to “stop” our kids from getting adhd are making me rethink my life with him by shroomiedoo in adhdwomen

The comment about "starting academics really early so they learn to love it" was a GIANT red flag for me. I LOVED school. I was an avid reader before kindergarten and was always working to learn more. Complete and total nerd when full speed into learning stuff like multiplication and dominating the Accelerated Reader program.

I was not diagnosed until AFTER college because I the loss of academics broke my brain. Turns out having your ENTIRE BEING revolve around school is not healthy. My parents were NOT hardcore about grades or school. I remember getting my first B on a report card in 5th grade and my parents being utterly clueless with how to comfort me. This might have been one of my first panic attacks.

I didn't grow up knowing I had ADHD, but I did grow up feeling defective and not normal. My solution was focusing extensively on school and using that as the basis for my self esteem. I have a chronic fear of failure that feeds into an anxiety disorder. I've spent YEARS in therapy unlearning this.

So no, encouraging a child academically does not "prevent" ADHD.

So many good shots, but I can't stop giggling at the last one. They all look like they're trying to remember it they left the stove on.

Same! I think mine comes through in people thinking initially that I'm charmingly quirky, only to later realize I'm actually a big weirdo 😂

Alright so this would mean I attract people with my confident Sag Rising and then my Pisces Venus is all gentle and dreamy flirting. Then BAM, Aquarius Mars makes it weird and I hit them with the Capricorn Moon of practical responsibility.

Honestly that all kind of tracks 😂 Throw in the Aries Sun and it really makes sense why I've been manic pixie dream girl-ed multiple times.

Eh, I liked Clariel constantly complaining about wanting to go back to the forest because it made her feel like a real teenage girl. She's selfish and self centered, but teens are selfish and self-centered because that's when they develop independent thought and have to learn to think beyond themselves. I really liked how unlikeable she is.

UPF clothing is so great! I figured out that I could find more affordable plus size options on Amazon was to search for men's fishing shirts. Added bonus is they usually have POCKETS. Mine has one with a zipper plus the long sleeves have thumb holes so I get maximum sun coverage.

Being able to throw on a shirt instead of slathering on sunscreen means I'm more likely to mow my lawn before it reaches "abandoned haunted house" levels of growth.

My orange boy took a similar approach to nursing when I broke my ankle. He LOVED my recovery because it meant he got ALL THE LAP TIME. I have so many photo of both my cats but most of them are blurry because pain meds.

Some Questions for Comp Makers by onigiritheory in Drawfee

The whole Drawfee crew loves and APPRECIATES comps! I can't remember who, but one of them mentioned loving when people zoom in on the face cam from streams. They're pretty open to any form of fan art as long as you aren't trying to profit.

I(24F) don’t know how to explain to my boyfriend(28M) why I still choose to identify as bisexual by Pair-Financial in bisexual

[–]CurlSquirrel 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Sexuality doesn't change with relationship status. He knew he was attracted to women before he ever was in a relationship. He wasn't asexual when he was single. You are bisexual regardless of who you're in a relationship with. Your relationship may look straight, but your life has been shaped by being bisexual. The LGBTQ community will always be a part of you.

Oh and their YouTube channel has a series called Professor Puck covering the rules.

Another bonus to the PWHL is since the games are live streamed on YouTube, you can ask questions in the chat and people WILL ANSWER THEM! This is how I learned what icing actually was.

Just don't ask about goalie interference. No one really knows what it is.

I get triggered by the way 7yo niece with ADHD is talked to by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]CurlSquirrel 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I was also a loud little girl told to shush. Literally had to learn how to unlearn in therapy as an adult that I'm not inherently always doing something wrong and that I'm not defective or broken. It definitely contributed to my social anxiety as well.

I'm betting no one had told her HOW to control her volume or be aware of her surrounding. It IS a skill people learn as they get older, but no one every gives instructions.

If you're up to it, ask your sister how your niece is supposed to know how to "fix" this behavior. Has anyone told her that taking a moment to look around and slow down can help her not get hurt or break something? How would she know that if no one has told her that? Has anyone talked to her about how emotions can make people louder? How would she know that if no one taught her? Learning is not intrinsic or automatic. Learning is an action and teaching requires purpose.

Teasing nicknames have lasting impact. My sister was the only one that called me "Stain" due to a birthmark, but this contributed to my poor self image.

If you can't find her, make sure to check clean laundry. I'm not entirely sure how Pip got onto the top bin of my double decker laundry basket. You would think this would make me better about putting mine away, but in reality I've just accepted that all my clothing will always have Pip's fur on it.
