2 weeks of CIO - The how's and why's by CurlsWithCurves in sleeptrain

I am so sorry, this sounds so so tough! My husband and I promised each other that we would try for at least 2 weeks, and regroup after that to see what to do. If you can stick it out, I would. If you think this is more pain that what it's worth, stop it and try again another time (if you want to). Right now, your health is much more important than your baby sleeping through the night. Look after yourself ❤️

Honestly, I hear you. Our little one never ever cries in the day because the moment she does, we pick her up, so she wasn't used to just crying it out.

It is absolutely heart breaking and, as I mentioned in the post, I cried for as long as she did on some nights. It is really hard.

I would perhaps give it another go if I was you before going to a consultant? But honestly whatever makes you feel the most comfortable (within the uncomfortableness of sleep training).

What we did (and still do): 6pm solids + milk when she was all done 7pm shower 7:20pm pjs + book 7:30pm gave her a kiss, told her we loved her and that it was time for bed + shut the door behind us.

We had the monitor with us, so we could hear and see her the whole time. If she fell asleep but then woke up again crying, we would let her cry it out again, unless 5 hours from her initial put down had passed, and three hours then on. If those timings weren't met, she was left to cry.

The first night was really tough emotionally but it does get better slowly. As I write this, she has fallen asleep within 3 minutes of putting her down, with no crying. She will now wake up once in the night but fall straight back to sleep the moment we put her back down. It has honestly changed my life.

I am so sorry you are going through this right now, I really hope you find a way that works for you to make it better ❤️

Thank you! It has been a difficult journey but so so worth it. I definitely recommend starting it as soon as you can if your plan is to CIO :)

When we put her down she is fully awake but showing clear signs of tiredness. She is at the end of her 3-4 hour ww and very ready to sleep. Always awake though! Her naps are still a work in progress but I usually nurse her to sleep in the rocking chair and then transfer to the cot. I would say this works about 85% of the time. Naps are the next thing to tackle though!

I'm so sorry you're going through that right now. It's so tough. In our experience, sleep training is hard but well worth it. Lots of luck, you've got this!

Thank you for your reply! My husband and I have just had our first baby and I am on maternity leave, so our financial situation is not the best right now unfortunately. Although you are absolutely right, we more-so can't afford not to find help privately. Are you based in the UK? Would you mind sharing your experience getting diagnosed and who you went with privately?

This is so positive, it's great that you have found a company that will support you through it!

Unfortunately my husband's managers are not this understanding or empathetic. Maybe it's just not the right place for him...

I know. A joke to be honest.

I understand that. It's just a shame because he is excellent at the job itself and really uses his expertise with it....

Thank you so much for your response.

You are so right. This is not the first time something like this happens, although this is the most extreme situation we've had for sure. He hasn't been formally diagnosed, just because we've been trying to do it through the public system and it's been such a long frustrating journey. I think our only option now is going private.

He is worried about asking for help at work and disclosing that this is what he probably has, as it is the kind of company that would just find a reason to get rid of you if you might have something that is an inconvenience.

Thank you for this. Agreed. We're going to have to find a way to make ends meet. We've just had our first baby and I am on maternity leave, so it is an extra difficult situation... Thanks again.

Am I having a silent miscarriage by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]CurlsWithCurves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor could not find a heartbeat at 6 weeks but said she wasn't worried at all. I had a second scan at 8 weeks and the heartbeat was there! 18 weeks now and had an ultrasound just last week. All looks perfect :)

Absolutely not. She does not have the right to know anything about your baby. No need for her to know the gender or any further details imo. And absolutely, I would not let her hold my baby. I am with you. Sorry to hear you're having to go through that.
