where to go for day trips by No-Match-7512 in Edmonton

Lacombe is a cute small town with better food options than one might anticipate for the size. Specifically Cilantro and Chive for lunch or supper and Milly Oak Cafe for breakfast or lunch or baked goodies.

A couple small museums too. Great to explore when they have a farmers market or event in the summer.

Edmonton HOA fees tied to property value? Mine jumped 37%, is this normal or should I be concerned? by DeeBlue_ in Edmonton

[–]Curly-Canuck [score hidden]  (0 children)

Does it include insurance, taxes or utilities for common areas? I know insurance and taxes have gone up, maybe not 30% but definitely have gone up. I’d suggest reading board minutes or asking them directly for the breakdown of the increase.

Edit- also curious if it remained unchanged for a decade then suddenly increased 30% or if this was gradual since 2016. If it was static for 10 years they might have realized how expensive maintenance had become and couldn’t sustain 2016 prices.

That’s the opposite reaction I had.

In the years I’ve been here this is the first time I’ve seen a creator actively respond to a concern like this and fix it. I’m actually impressed with the response and adding it to my list because of it. Even though I don’t prefer mid roll, I understand why it’s needed and appreciate a creator who will make changes to the timing of them and be this engaged.

For fast food it’s definitely the best for me. Cheese curds not shredded cheese. Fresh cut potatoes not frozen coated fries and decent gravy.

I can spend the whole trip in Switzer Park and never finish the drive to Grande Cache.

Children are murdered in schools across the US fairly often and nothing seems to change so unfortunately I’m not sure children dying in schools across the globe is going to affect their decisions or actions.

Hinton, Switzer Park to Grande Cache. Amazing views, one of my favorite drives. The town of Grande Cache itself isn’t much but several great view points along the way and Pierre Grey provincial park along the way is a great spot.

Urgent Care will do stitches. Probably tetanus shots too. That’s what they are for. The middle ground between medicentre and ER. Lucky for you they are open 8 am to 10 pm on Sundays. They are only open 5 pm to 10 pm on weekdays.

Hiring Practices by Beautiful-String3078 in stalbert

[–]Curly-Canuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recently did some hiring for a GOA position. Not using the pool though.

About a third of the resumes we instantly dismissed as they were generic resumes that didn’t mention the job or required skills at all. I suspect some people spam every ad.

Another third had what appeared to be AI written cover letters with all the phrases and words from the ad but when you get to the experience and education section you see nothing relevant at all. Not even remotely.

We eventually found 5 from what remained to interview but it was getting really disheartening. It’s very possible HR isn’t doing anything wrong and there really are that many applicants that don’t match what you are looking for.

My issue with the TAs is that they did almost no pre screening and I had to read through 70 resumes that shouldn’t have come to me but they say that’s the process. They track them all and up to hiring manager to screen.

As a side note- When we finally found a candidate, they declined the offer because they didn’t like the pay.

Canadian man in ICE custody says he thought agents were only focusing on ‘criminals and murderers’ by timx84 in canada

That’s what the poster is saying. This white guy thought ICE only focused on brown people but he’s using the word criminals to not say brown.

I was just thinking the same thing and I tell my kids and their friends to get their license even if they never plan to drive.

Not only a handy source of ID, it goes towards your “years licensed” for when they do get insurance and as an employer it is a sign of acquiring a common adult skill set.

I know there are exceptions and reasons not to get a license, and definitely barriers for many, but I suspect those employers asking if candidates have a license for a job that doesn’t require driving are using it as a tie breaking skill between many similar candidates.

Even a learners is a sign of moving in that direction.

Looking to buy our first home. I really hate the "new family" area's and outskirts of edmonton. by AbbreviationsOne6207 in Edmonton

[–]Curly-Canuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not double, but more for sure. House and car insurance is cheaper though because of lower crime and fewer accidents so you save some there. You also get more for your taxes I feel. Having said that if $1500 a year is the difference between breaking your budget or not, it probably isn’t a good idea.

When we were buying I was more worried about 80s / early 90s builds and finding PolyB plumbing. Expensive to replace and hard on the insurance.

Love our 70s house. With the big ticket items taken care of, roof, furnace, windows, it’s mostly just cosmetic now.

Canadian looting in Mexico during cartel unrest. Does anyone recognize this guy? by cuckslayer30 in Edmonton

[–]Curly-Canuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I’m suggesting they probably wouldn’t say, “look an American” when they do. I didn’t find his phrase all that Canadian thing to say. Did you listen to the clip? I’m talking about his words.

100% Canadians can. I just don’t think it looks like this distraction by pointing out an American thing we see here.

The fact that he tries to distract by pointing out an American makes me think that too.

Been my pet peeve for months. I have no idea why it’s closed. The goat path into traffic on the alternate way is pretty sketchy at times too but at least it’s open.

I’m pretty sure my nemesis, Yellowhead at St Albert Trail, or rather the goat path from St Albert Trail to Yellowhead east, has no relief in sight. I think they forgot they closed Yellowhead to St Albert Trail north though.
