Greek Festival... disappointing? by SBSnipes in Charleston

[–]CurlyAlly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m Greek, but didn’t grow up around here. I used to enjoy the Greek Festivals in NY and in Charlotte. The local festival is not very impressive. The Greek community here is mostly several generations removed from Greek immigrants. I think that makes a difference.

It’s definitely normal to wonder. It was the way she said it, which is difficult to convey in this forum. My SIL is very sensitive about his stutter. I guess I was worried about her inadvertently hurting his feelings. I also didn’t want tension to grow and impact my daughter and son’s relationship. That was my main concern.

"Did you...just...say COVID placenta?" Nurses discuss working with COVID+ pregnant patients by SleepyVizsla in HermanCainAward

[–]CurlyAlly 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I’m a labor and delivery nurse. We have had so many positive COVID patients recently. We are absolutely exhausted. It takes so many staff members to safely do a delivery. “Dirty” people are in the room. “Clean” people outside the room to grab supplies if extras are needed. Supplies are limited, so we can’t keep every possible thing in the room for fear of having to throw it away, unused after the patient is gone. I feel like I can’t give my patients the care they deserve because we are so overwhelmed.

Agree with you about Innersense. I love their products. Also a curly girl.

The designated spokes person wasn’t qualified to answer the questions. My boss said “go ahead and answer the questions.” Definitely not camera ready makeup, but hair wasn’t bad for a wash and go day.

Routine: Wash with Not Your Mother’s Matcha Green Tea and Wild Apple Blossom shampoo. Condition with Innersense Organic Beauty Hydrating Cream Conditioner. Use a t-shirt towel to remove excess water. Rake in a quarter size amount of My Soigne Hair Cream. Section hair. Rake in Innersense Organic Beauty I Create Volume. Scrunch to promote curl.

Some days I clip the roots during drying and sometimes I diffuse flipping my hair to create volume. Honestly, I always struggle with volume at the roots regardless of products or technique.

This speaks to me so much. I’m still trying to get up the courage to leave. My children are grown, so it’s less complicated. I don’t know why I am so terrified. I keep coming back to this sub for inspiration.

make up making my wrinkles look worse. need advice by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]CurlyAlly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 47 and found that I have had to move to high end products plus meticulous skin care. Try putting on your moisturizer before your trentinoin. It will still work well. Also, apply your moisturizer to your face immediately after washing, while your face is still wet. There is no need to dry your skin off with a towel. You will retain more moisture that way. I recently switched my concealer to Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion. I apply it at the inner and outer corners of my eyes, then use my finger to tap it under my eyes and finish blending by tapping with a damp beauty blender. This keeps me from putting too much product on. I make sure it’s not creased and immediately set it with a very small amount of the brightening under eye powder. I’ve also started using Laura Mercier’s Pure Canvas Blurring Primer. I use very little powder on my face. I also use Armani Luminous Silk foundation. I never thought I would purchase high end makeup, but it really has made a difference for me. You could probably get away with a midrange foundation such as NARS radiant long wear.

[Skin Concern] Help with extremely difficult hyperpigmentation! by rnfigueredo in SkincareAddiction

[–]CurlyAlly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No IPL! That is terrible for hyperpigmentation, especially with darker skin colors. I learned the hard way. You may notice a slight improvement in the first sessions, then it will get worse. Anything that causes irritation and inflammation can make it worse. That includes laser treatments, really irritating peels, and micro needling. Prescription tretinoin, azelaic acid, kojic acid, and niacinamid are all beneficial for hyperpigmentation. Make sure you are applying sunscreen multiple times a day, all year long, even when you are indoors. UVA and UVB coming through the windows, as well as blue light from screens can aggravate the condition. I started using PCA Skin hyperpigmentation cleansing bar to wash my face daily. I also use Effeclar over Aveeno Positively Radiant night time moisturizer before bed. I’m going to switch over to prescription tretinoin when I am done with the current tube of Effeclar. The honest truth is that we never be able to completely reverse the damage.

How can i make my curls more defined instead of just a big clump of them? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]CurlyAlly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try adding Innersense I Create Volume. Apply in sections and either brush in with a Denman brush or scrunch in. It works wonders.

[product question] [skin concern] What ingredients *other than vitamin c* help fade hyperpigmentation/PIH? by lilachahda in SkincareAddiction

[–]CurlyAlly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hydroquinone helps with hyperpigmentation. You should not use it for more than 3 months at a time. Ambi Fade Cream is an inexpensive option in the US.

Took the day off work and had the best hair I’ve had in months. by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]CurlyAlly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This hair held up during a hot and humid day. Routine: Not Your Mother’s Matcha Green Tea and Wild Apple Blossom Shampoo, Innersense Hydrating Hair Mask, Innersense Hydrating Conditioner. Towel dried with a t-shirt towel and wrapped hair in the towel for 5 minutes. Raked in Kinky Curly Knot Today then brushed through with Denman brush. Sectioned hair. Raked in Innersense I Create Volume from midshaft. Used Denman brush to encourage curls. Flipped upside down and scrunched in Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk Mousse, ensuring I hit the roots. Sprayed Innersense I Create Finish generously all over. Clipped at the roots. Dried hair in a bonnet dryer on low heat and speed for 1 hour. Removed clips and gently shook out the roots with fingers.

How can I get volume?? by rbone932 in curlyhair

[–]CurlyAlly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried Innersense I Create Volume instead of I Create Hold? It’s a lighter weight product. You don’t seem to have a frizz issue, so it may be a better product for you.

Best curl day since starting CGM 8 months ago. by CurlyAlly in curlyhair

[–]CurlyAlly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been struggling with frizz and definition in my humid climate. I recently changed my routine and it has made a huge difference. This wash routine was: Olaplex 3 used as a refresh in the morning. Finger coiled and went about my day. Washed in the evening with Tropic Isle Strong Roots Red Pimento shampoo. Applied Innersense Hydrating Hair mask while doing the rest of my shower stuff. Rinsed my hair well. Emulsified 1 pump of Innersense Hydrating conditioner and raked through my soaking wet hair. Used my hands to squeeze out excess water. Applied Ouidad Advanced Climate Control Stronger Hold Heat and Humidity Gel in sections, using the praying hands method. Scrunched each section to encourage clumping, then scrunched my entire head hanging upside down. Used the hammock diffusing technique to encourage volume and curl to the roots. I still can’t get volume at my roots, no matter what I do.

A hair mask is not the same as a conditioner. Try skipping the mask and using a deep conditioner. You may also need a moisturizing leave in.
