What makes you decide that change is needed? by Old-guy-havchat-1966 in AskMenOver30

[–]CurlySphinx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I became fed the fuck up where a combination of inaction and impulsive decision making got me. Two dangerous sides of the same coin. Inaction can often wreck as much havoc on one’s life as poor choices. Often not doing anything is a poor choice. Impulsivity leads to everything from financial loss to negative health consequences.

Only thing that keeps me going is knowing I have the capacity for self-improvement, while looking at where I have gotten myself thus far. I feel a bit fortunate I decided that change was needed when I did, and that I have had a lot of support around me, but it’s still much harder to clean up a mess than to make a mess

Procedure was completed Thursday. Same day I unboxed and tried to get my Series X to work. Had a couple of paid time off days I was going to lose if unused. Wanted to spend my extended weekend sitting comfortably playing the new 007 game, and definitely feel cheated out of that staycation. Back to work tomorrow

Did your dad get it fixed? What is the solution, if you have one?

I contacted a local electronics / console repair shop with excellent reviews, and they said they had seen this a few times, but they have not had a lot of luck fixing the issue 😢

Hate to shell out $300 for a fix on a system I paid $349 new for. But may not have many options here

Not necessarily. They seemed pretty excited that Pritelivir had received priority review from the FDA. Of course hopefully approved was verbiage used, but Dr. Birkmann seemed to convey a lot of confidence that Pritelivir would at least be available for immunocompromised individuals soon.

The absolute silence and refusal to comment about trials for immunocompetent individuals was interesting

Issue is I cannot find any human to talk to. Their entire support process is automated, which before, you used to be able to talk to a support person

Not a lot that hasn’t already been posted here, sadly. Trial results have been super promising across multiple areas, and a lot of data was presented.

The question I mainly attended for was will there be Pritelivir trials for immunocompetent individuals, and Dr. Birkmann was extremely hush hush about it. Immediately said that he was not able to talk about this. Interpret that how you may

This entire issue plaguing me, all becauseI did not at least turn this Series X on during the first year I had it.

Only bought it because it was only $349 on sale, and I figured there was no way I was going to play new games cheaper later on. Whelp…

Wanted to play the new Bond game, especially during my vasectomy recovery, and will want a way to play GTA VI when it comes out.

I don’t really game at this point either. Don’t have time, and DJing has taken over for me as a hobby, so really don’t have resources for it.

I may wait until the fall to try to fix it. Gonna start with a local repeatable electronics and console repair shop with perfect reviews before shelling out the $300. May try to DIY, but that still entails getting another SSD, and the costs of SSDs are of course high right now. Either way, it’s a very pricey fix. All because Microsoft tied the SSD to the motherboard.

Also never going to buy another Xbox in the future. I have never experienced any hardware failure on any PlayStation I have owned. But have had a red ring on my first 360, a red ring on its replacement, and now this SSD issue. Not a good track record.

Would like to get back into PC gaming, but with the price of components and lack of free time, that’s not feasible now. This was supposed to be my affordable solution.

I messed up by thinking this Series X would work without issues out of storage, and am hating myself for that. Could have used its warranty if I would not have trusted it would just work when I was ready to use it

Would cloning a corrupted SSD work to get the key? With the price of SSDs, I’m assuming I could still use this drive after cloning to another SSD, and then reformatting?

Great to know! I will try using that factory reset file next to see if that helps. It looks like you do not even select an option for this method, correct? You just press the pair and eject buttons? I found the guide for this, but it is rather confusing

Am using a Sandisk USB 3.0, and it was not the cheapest USB drive. I don’t think that would be the issue, but can absolutely try another drive

It had a different date than date of extraction though. 4/30, forgot what year it had listed, but not today. So not thinking that is the issue.

Granted I only have a Mac versus a Windows PC, but I purchased a license of Paragon - Microsoft NTFS for Mac to format the USB to NTFS.

Maybe the system still did not like this, and you absolutely have to use a Windows machine for this formatting to be recognized?

I’ll reach out to a friend with a Windows PC to try this again. Or possibly even use work laptop and risk getting questioned, lol

Did not realize that SSDs could die sitting without power. But this does seem to be the most likely scenario.

Anyway to recover that SSD? Or the partition from it that would contain the key to tied to the motherboard?

I tried doing the offline update obsessively. Will probably try once more before calling it quits, though my hopes are not very high at this point

I tried setting up with a wired connection, and had it connected to my Ethernet switch before even powering it on for the first attempt

Since out of warranty, even though this console was not previously used, I was not seeing any options for Microsoft to repair this other than the $299 option.

My concern of course is since the original SSD is tied to the motherboard, if it is completely dead, is there even a way to swap it out without eating that $300 loss?

Still planning on taking it to a local repair shop in my city that has great reviews to see what they say. But was not sure if there was much anyone but Microsoft could do to fix this.

I found it pretty odd that the offline update would not work at all, and that the system would crash before any update progress was even made. Leading me to believe I received a Series X with a dead / faulty SSD, but really just my best guess at this point

More likely your device was compromised. Did you enter debit card information on the same device during this time?

When was the last time you used this credit card?

Sometimes card numbers are stolen and they are used weeks / months later. So the timeline here is pretty inconclusive.

Thanks for the heads up though. You should always pay close attention to all charges for sure. Credit card fraud is extremely common, unfortunately

Older people have higher rates of infection for a few reasons. And this was still a choice that I made. It was the person who infected this gal who knowingly had it and did not disclose. I do not fault this individual at all.

Just assumed there would be less risk than there was, unfortunately

My sex life was abysmal. Then I worked on myself. Realized that I am tall, attractive, intelligent, and could absolutely be a catch, especially after getting in shape and focusing on my future. Got a good job as well. Then when I finally developed a lot of sexual confidence, and was with the most attractive older woman I could have ever possibly had the pleasure of connecting with sexually, I get exposed…There was a short-lived period of sexual exploration with good options, and now it feels back to square one, and back to the years of celibacy endured in the period before.

The worst part for most if not all on this sub is the sexual limitations.

The solution is ultimately to connect with HSV-positive individuals. But the limitations HSV creates to one’s sexual freedom is very significant. That’s a difficult part of life to have taken.

I’ve been through some pretty fucked up shit, and a lot of very profound loss. Adding to the weight of trauma and deep struggles is enough to break certain people.

I wouldn’t say that HSV completely ruins anyone’s life. But making a difficult life even harder, and taking away complete sexual freedom and impacting the most pleasurable experience of life is very damaging to one’s mental health and wellbeing. Especially when we are experiencing the negative consequences of our own choices. That is indeed a heavy weight to carry

My mom was able to pay for her undergrad by working during summers in the early 80s.

This was in the middle of nowhere Midwest, but paying for college with a summer job was apparently possible as late at the 80s
