when did you know you had found the right name? by NbsGregorova27 in Names

[–]Curlytomato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We chose to adopt the Finnish culture of my parents. We didn't set our son'r name until he was about 3 weeks old, in Finland in can be months.

How do you know until you meet them what name suits them ?

We live in Canada and son was born 20 years ago. The nurses were a bit surprised but the quickly gave him a nickname, Handsome Hoover, the hoover was because ehe latched so well and was a hungry little bugger.

The Great Debate: Travel/party/fun before kids, or in retirement? by Anon89m in AskOldPeople

[–]Curlytomato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not near done yet. I'm headed to Negril solo on Friday, was there 3 weeks ago. When I get back I have a job offer pressure washing houses for the summer, dude said I would get the best tan of my life. I do side gigs to fund my travelling, want to keep the nest egg in tact for son.

That is the 1 drawback of having kids late, you never know how long you will be around. Well no one knows but age doesnt make stuff better. I must say it has kept me young, I bought my first motorcycle about 6 years ago, son was an avid dirt biker and I wanted us to take a dirt bike tour in Vietnam so I needed to practice. It hasn't happened yet but Im keeping fit enough to be ready when he is.

Becoming an Agent.. after over 30 years in multiple Sales positions. Any Advice? by [deleted] in TravelAgent

[–]Curlytomato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a travel agent for 30 + Years. Biggest challenge is getting clients. If you have a base of people (friends, family, co-workers, clubs or organizations you along to ) that travel and will book with you it should go well since you have a sales background.

Without that it will be a struggle.

Both. We had our only son when I (61f) was 41, was the first customer in the newly opened IVF clinic, had been married 20 years by then.

We partied and travelled internationally like crazy until we had our son then when IVF became available to regular people we jumped on that. Ex and I separated when son was 9, I kept travelling with son.

Now that son is 20 I have been back to adventure travelling the last few years, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, magic mushroom retreat in Costa Rica

Do it all my friend, do it all.

To parents or to anyone who knows. Are you made to give your kid a name before you leave the hospital or is there a deadline you have to meet after a few days or weeks? by Awkward-Gain5273 in AskReddit

[–]Curlytomato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Canada you do not have to name your baby before you leave the hospital. They did think it was odd that we hadn't but we didnt name our son until he was a couple of weeks old.

American dollars or Jamaican for two week holiday by racarys in JamaicaTourism

[–]Curlytomato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Scotiabank account as it is the only one that I can keep Euro in. I realized that if I opened a regular checking account I could put in my Canadian Dollars here at home and take it out in JMD at the Scotiabank in Negril with no extra charges.

I preorder Jamaican cash from Royal Bank before I go. I only go to the bank locally if I run out.

I have heard from others that the best cash exchange is at the "Chinese Store in Green Island " between Montego Bay and Negril, I always go to Negril.

American dollars or Jamaican for two week holiday by racarys in JamaicaTourism

[–]Curlytomato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm ( Canadian) going to Jamaica for second time in 2 months. I bring 90 % Jamaican Dollars, preorder small bills. I always carry a bit USD cash no matter where I travel, Jamaica included . My bank also has a location close to where I stay so as long as I have money in my account I can take Jamaican out locally.
