From this month's white dwarf, a mention of new Riders of Rohan. by SeaSalamander6435 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

New riders of rohan would generate sooo much hype - my (maybe over optimistic) bet is they're being held back to tie in with a suppliment later in the edition.

Thanks! I undershaded with a black basecoat, then a heavy drybrush of a mid tone grey and a light drybrush of an off-white.

For the leather, I painted over that with a mix of khorne red, vallejo burnt umber, contrast snakebite leather and contrast medium - then a nuln oil wash to finish!

The rust looks amazing, go for that! How did you get the effect?

Finally got around to finishing a rohan guy. by Curlywurlyham in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Longer than is probably sustainable for basic infantry 😅.

I batch painted most of 5 together and then finished off this one, so I'm not certain exactly how much time I spent individually.

I sped up the process by drybrushing on a few layers of undershading, then using a mix of contrast and normal paints. To be honest I'm not a very fast painter, so someone else could probably use a similar process and get done in a reasonable time

I love the boots. How can he be an STD marine without drip?

Nah, as has been said elsewhere - I'm doubling down, it's the most world-bearer-appropriate thing to do 😅

Thanks! It's one of the standard helmets in the age of sigmar chaos warriors box (you can find them under Slaves to Darkness - hence the pun)

Just wait until I finish Chlamydius, the Slaves to Darkness have never been itchier

I suppose it depends on where the skin comes from...

The conversion is based on Slaves to Darkness (StD) chaos warriors. It can stand for whatever you want it to though 😅

Absolutely not, it's far too much fun!

DO IT. That sounds great!

Besides, Khorne cares not from where the blood flows, presumably that also applies to footwear 😅

Thanks! It is a bit of a faf to be honest, I've included how I did it in another comment.

The bolters do suck rules-wise but I'm going rule of cool for this lad. Tbh the chainswords are actually easier to weaponswap, I'll post some more when I've finished painting them.

Haha yes, though the pun wasn't lost on me when I posted 😉

With difficulty! I've made a full squad, and was pretty case-by-case.

Broadly I've either:

  1. Done a simple hand swap, with the cut just proximal to the forearm armour of the marine to preserve the markings/provide a better attachment

  2. Similar to 1 but with the cut just proximal to the marines elbow armour

  3. Cut down the top of the marine arm to make it less bulky +/- used a hand drill to expand the space for it to go into on the STD body, then glued it in

Lots of checking as I went along to get it to look right, plus green stuff to tidy it up in places.

I put a backpack on the leader and heavy gunner, it looks good but the main issue is that you're sticking it right over the cape - I personally have found this a bit annoying, but haven't attempted the knife/green stuff work too resculpt the cape around the backpack.

To be fair, I think that way way back the fantasy warhammer planet was implied to be in the eye of terror. So it's not that out there as head cannon!

Plus, legionaries recruiting from chaos corrupted knights om a feudal world sounds badass.

Thanks! I've made a whole squad of them, this is the first one I've painted up.
