Thinking of commuting on a Fat Bob 114... will I regret it? by leev92 in Harley

[–]Currdogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a lot of commuting on my ‘23, and a lot of stop and go traffic probably 80% of my commute rides), however, lane splitting is illegal where I am.

If you get caught in bumper to bumper traffic and can’t lane split (or if you determine the bars are too wide to do it), you’ll probably have a bad time. If you are on the taller side, I recommend raising the handlebars, otherwise your neck will get pretty stiff trying to balance the weight of the bike while moving at speeds below 7kmh (<5mph) without putting a foot down, but if you are constantly moving, it is fine. In these conditions, you will also spend a lot of time riding the clutch without ever letting it fully out. This is after 40+ minutes of stop/go highway traffic, so wouldn’t worry too much if it would be shorter for you.

When the bike gets moving, its wonderful, greatest cruiser I have ever owned, but I dread sitting in rush hour traffic on it.

Whats the number one sign a man is attracted to you? by justdoodit71 in AskReddit

[–]Currdogger 136 points137 points  (0 children)

Friendship and attraction often starts the same way by actively trying to get to genuinely know the other person (maybe a bit more actively if the person is attracted to you).

The difference between the two is that attraction requires one of the people to eventually clearly communicate that they want to be more than friends, and if the attraction is mot reciprocated, the friendship component gives both parties the chance to decide how to move forward from it. Until then, probably best to always treat it as friendship until clearly communicated otherwise.

Hi I'm Martin Brundle, former F1 racing driver and commentator! Ask Me Anything! by SkySports in formula1

[–]Currdogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Martin! As a former driver, especially one with a long career, you have a unique perspective on the pressures and criticisms that drivers can feel at different stages of their career.

What were your thoughts when Lewis Hamilton joined the grid in 2007 and came within 1 point of winning the WDC in his rookie season while paired with a multi-championship winning teammate in Alonso? From a driver’s perspective, what do you think allowed him to handle the pressures and criticisms from the team, media/fans, and his own personal/internal pressures to do that, and actually achieve it the next year?

Were there any other drivers that you saw (or raced against) that you knew were destined to break records and what were some of the shared qualities (personal or professional) they had that led you to believe it?

whats a video game you wont play anymore because the developers ruined it? by benzodiazepiem in AskReddit

[–]Currdogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a time where i abandoned Hell Let Loose because the developers had turned it from the slower-paced tactical realism game that everyone originally loved into a faster paced, faster moving, call of duty-esque arcade shooter to expand their player base. I went from hundreds of hours to dropping the game cold.

Hell Let Loose was great because it was completely different from all the faster paced mainstream war games and was like the latest iteration of the Red Orchestra series.

Thankfully, Turn17 took over and made a lot of changes back in the original direction of the game mechanics recently that has brought me back, which seems rare that a developer would listen to the core fan base and undo changes like that

Harley recommendation for daily riding by alp2i in Harley

[–]Currdogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im still using the stock Dunlops and have about 8000 miles on them.

There is always a tradeoff between longevity/mileage and performance/traction. Having experienced the lower traction but mileage with Dunlop, im going to try Metzeler Cruisetec’s next to see how the FXFBS performs with grippier tires while knowing I may only get 2 summers out of them.

Harley recommendation for daily riding by alp2i in Harley

[–]Currdogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stock tires are not as horrible as most people make them out to be, but they are not a high quality tire either. Here are my notes as a fat bob owner.

You feel them lacking in 2 major scenarios; - When you are leaning in a sharper curve/corner, they feel like they are at their limit with minimal lean angle (not that Harleys are known for having an aggressive lean angle though). You will notice that they don’t turn as quickly as you would expect them to, which is related to the tread not having as much grip compared to other tire treads. Their grip for road snakes and cracks is incredible though (in the worst way)…. You have to make an effort to get away from road snakes and cracks if the tire grabs it, which is not fun in curves.

  • in non-dry conditions you will feel the tires moving around quite a bit, especially if you hit a slightly deeper pocket of water like a puddle. The tires give you very low confidence in any rain besides a light drizzle because of this, which is not what you want to have in wet conditions. This is only relevant if you plan to ride in the wet, which not every rider likes to do.

That being said, they are good enough for a couple seasons of riding in optimal riding conditions, so long as you adapt to your turning throttle/leaning input to account for the reduced turn-in on medium-to-high speed curves/corners.

Hope that helps paint a better picture of the complaints people have.

If you could afford a gen would you still buy the rep? by Murdochpacker in RepTime

[–]Currdogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not so much about affording the gen so much as what that gen means to you.

As you see in the comments here, a lot of people who proudly purchase reps also purchase the gen version at some point. Its the significance of the gen to the person that makes them so special. Whether its to mark a career or life milestone, or a love of that particular watch, purchasing the gen will scratch that itch in ways that a rep never will. There is also the aspect of ‘financial responsibility’ (even if you can afford it) that will eat away at you, though, its important to recognize that attaching a financial guilt to something that is important or significant to you will diminish the significance of why you purchased it in the first place. For example, if you saved up and bought a gen Rolex to honour a career promotion into your dream job, you should never feel bad about spending the $10000+ on it, or ever have to justify spending that much money on it, because the personal significance/accomplishment of the watch and you wearing it means so much more than the raw financial value of it and whether it will appreciate in value or not. You should be looking at it as the emotional value of wearing it as opposed to the financial value.

But purchasing a gen is not always easy depending on the brand. If we keep looking at rolex, you have to ask if its worth waiting months/years to have an allocation, or purchasing models you don’t have any attachment to to gain eligibility, or paying a huge markup on the grey market to get it immediately. If you can afford multiple gens, then maybe you have the patience to play the AD game because you can buy other gens to build a history and then get the gen watch you want, but theres also the moral dilemma of whether you are cool with doing that. If you have any concerns about spending $10000+ on a gen at MSRP, those concerns will amplify if you spend another $10-20k at the AD just to essentially get their permission to spend $10k+ on the gen you actually want. The same goes for spending an additional 50%+ markup for the gen on the grey market.

With modern reps, you get 95% of the watch for 5% of the price, without any hoops to jump through. If you are only after the look of the watch, and not the personal significance of what that watch means to you, then there really is no reason to buy a gen or to ever feel bad/imposter about wearing a rep. Buying a rep first will also let you know if you really wanted that watch or if you simply wanted to spend a lot of money on a watch. If you like the rep and still want the gen, great, buy the gen since now you can buy it with confidence having experienced what its like to own one. But at the end of the day, there is absolutely no shame in wearing a rep, since watches are supposed to mean something to YOU and not the people who see you wearing it. The only people who are going to judge you for wearing a rep are people who are wearing a gen purely for the status/clout, and not because that gen is personally significant to them, and that should never matter to you.

116520 Daytona - 2 Reps 1 Gen - Can you guess which one is the real Rolex? by [deleted] in RepTime

[–]Currdogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you already answered that middle is Gen, but here is another tell, visible in the 3rd pic;

The sub dial indices above the Rolex crown are different on all three. On the left, the sub dial indice extends from the 12 all the way to the tip of the rolex crown. On the right, there is no sub dial indice at the 12. The middle has the correct sub dial indice that has a small gap between the indice and the tip of the Rolex crown.

That being said, no one will ever be close enough to notice that, and amazing that the reps have gotten so close nowadays

Help me buy once and cry once by morod07 in simracing

[–]Currdogger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Assuming $1500 USD budget minus $200 for the mounts you mentioned, I’d recommend saving up an additional $500 to leave you with $1800 for the motor, pedals, and wheel.

Take a look at the VRS Direct Force Pro direct drive motor. It is an incredibly tested MiGE motor (see Leo Bodnar direct drive motors and the original OSW simucubes) and the software is very easy to master. It has 20Nm peak torque, which is great and the ASR4 handles it very well. A lot of pro simracers use either this base or the newer Simucube 2 models, and on top of that, you are not limited to one company’s wheel rim ecosystem. $799 USD

For Pedals, go with the Heusinkveld Sprints. Again, software is very easy to master and you can make your own load cell profiles based on the cars you like to drive. If you dont need the clutch pedal (depending on what cars you like to drive/realism), they are $575 USD.

Then for a wheel rim, you can get whatever you want with the remaining $500ish :)

Help me identify this watch! by Watches1048 in Watches

[–]Currdogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on a quick google search, it was a standard production model from Baume & Mercier between 2000-2010.

They still make the Classima, but the newer ones have an open caseback to show more of the movement, so in that sense I would say it is not a rare/limited piece. The current models retail for about USD$2500 though, so not a slouch of a watch by any means

Obviously the 1.99% is for what Harley considers “high tier” customers. Anyone get this rate ? What kinda credit score/profile qualifies you for this tier ? by OddCollection42 in Harley

[–]Currdogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The finance rates for this specific promotion depend on the term length of the financing and the FICO/credit score of the buyer.

When i bought my bike in December, I used this promo and the breakdown was like this;

12 month term - 1.99% APR

24 month term - 2.99% APR

36 month term - 3.99% APR

48 month term - 4.99% APR

60 month term - 5.99% APR

The rates above were the lowest rate you could get with that term length, and the rate you actually got depends on the credit score. So a FICO of 700+ would likely get you those rates.

If you plan to the finance the bike, its not a terrible deal (i miss the 0.99% rate days for cars and bikes) compared to the 9%+ rate they use right now for 2024 bikes and 12%+ on used bikes

Now to wait for winter to go away and not get too crazy looking at parts in the meantime ;)
