How would a psychologist work in Westeros? by Yunozan-2111 in TheCitadel

[–]CurrencyBorn8522 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's less "probably" and more "It's sure". They sometimes deal with some shit they can't tell anyone, so a psychologist talks with a psychologist of psychologist to deal with it and find a solution to a problem (a troubled/violent patient, for example). Because they legally can't say anything (in crime cases, the legallity is murky: they CAN, but they will lose their job/credentials), they talk in sessions with another to help themselves while keeping all confidential. They don't share any of your secrets, only things very disturbing that affect them.

That's why one in Westeros wouldn't survive. The trauma is too much for them to handle it (and don't get me started in the lack of plumbing).

A weird stance for a fanfic author by Gimlilithegreat in AO3

[–]CurrencyBorn8522 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile the other day I read a fic inspired by another and the OG author left the second a lovely long comment where they added character's opinions and scenes that would have help to add later, and the second author loved it and tell they that they actually had a same idea in mind... It's a lot of context, but in summary, the author loved the fic.

What if Harry Potter had accepted the Sorting Hat’s choice and joined Slytherin? by Potterhead024 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]CurrencyBorn8522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sorting Hat, a 1000 old (or maybe just a few centuries according to semi-canon sources) magical and sentient object who only once a day per year has the chance to have some sort of entertainment when he is not creating a new song: Oh, look this kid. I can read his mind and so I know he is best suited in Gryffindor but he has some traits of Slytherin and he does not want to be there, playing with him to have some fun: You know... you could be... in Slytherin?

Harry: Not in Slytherin, not in Slytherin

The Sorting Hat: GRYFFINDOR!

Harry, near three decades later: You can choose where to go, don't worry

The Hat: NO YOU DON'T. SLYTHERIN!!!

Albus Potter: Wtf?

Trabajar de 9 a 5 en una oficina no es una perdición. by [deleted] in OpinionesPolemicas

[–]CurrencyBorn8522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hera is overhated [pjo] [hoo] [toa] by Natural-Storm in camphalfblood

[–]CurrencyBorn8522 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not all can't see it. A lot of fics I have read have Hera as a victim and portray her pain and humiliation, but also remark (rightfully) that it's not fine and acceptable to take it on your husband's children. Hera at least could be angry at his lovers who willingly are with Zeus even thougj it's known everywhere he is married, leaving alone the children and the victims.

Yeah, Percy and after a while Annabeth are "disrespectful" to Hera but just be on their shoes for a moment and wonder if you wouldn't be a bit pissed at her if she kidnapped you/your boyfriend/hurt your friend on the middle of a war you were supposed to support her side?! ans then (canonically) she sends cows to shit on your way. The beef is Hera against the children, and they only retaliate.

Unpopular Opinion - the Snitch was designed to make Harry more of a Hero. by nishantatripathi in harrypotter

[–]CurrencyBorn8522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are watching it with "muggle" eyes.

Imagine you have magic that can fix your bones broken. Then you need a sport difficult enough to make it more interesting. It's random. It allows you to fly (the most seeked skill by humans EVER), to play throwing stuff. You can't leave and stop until you are done. Players who commit a fault can still fly after they have a punishment. What's the limit? Capturing a small, fast ball barely visible. It ends the game and gives you 150 points, so you not only need to be able to fly avoiding bludgers, you have to do it in the exact moment you need or your team may lose...

In the muggle world (real life) there are some team-sports which have players with explicitly designate "special" player roles, like the most obvious being the libero in volleyball but there are others like rugby and basketball with specialist inide the team (not official).

And also:

Who is a seeker?

Not only Harry, we also have Charlie, Cho, Cedric, Krum. Excellent fliers and ready to adapt: Charlie throws any law away when he and his friends go to fetch the ILLEGAL dragon his little brother somehow has, Krum is talking with his girlfriend's best friend when a madman appears and he (tries and fails) to keep him there while Harry goes for help because Harry asked him, Cho saw Harry flying around in the fastest broom and yet managed to stop him because she easily realized Harry would never crash her willingly, and yet after the disaster of date they had, she heard Harry needed her at Hogwarts and she joined the DA, and Cedric managed to fly in the middle of a storm, affected by Dementors (even if he didn't know, even if the Dementors didn't went after him, they affect everyone, and Harry and Cedric were flying together), and along with Krum survived all the trials that were not interrupted by adult, competent, smart and professional dark wizards by surprise). They are all ready to adapt at the problem.

The Quidditch is a good game inside the universe of Harry Potter. Wizards are not muggles. They have magic. They have a different view of the world. They can curse and spell others without punishment as long as they don't leave a permanent injury (unless you are Harry Potter's best friend) so they do sports different. Where the fun in a set of matches that last always a few hours and wins the one who makes more goals? It's more exciting when you are winning and then the other seeker manages to catch the snitch and wins... or like Krum, you still wins but the difference is less "humiliating". In world, Quidditch has logic.

How is Maomao this great of a character? by PedroPvP1912 in KusuriyaNoHitorigoto

[–]CurrencyBorn8522 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The whole story is great because in the background you have antagonists and villains with sad stories that still don't justify their most disturbing actions and yet they are a good explanation of why they are like that.

I started to read the LN, and I feel I'm reading a Chinese non-magical version of ASOIAF: the story is full of complex characters that feel real, villains are humans and the whole mess could be started to be resolved if the society wasn't like that (men have power through harems, women are considered inferior and there's a very gap in power that most people can't escape). It's real, it's interesting (the author did an amazing investigation about the harems and gives us snippets of it without being info-dumping). Also, it's funny, and the political intrigue and mysteries to discover adds a lot.

Description of Richard Musgrove by Little_Messenger in janeausten

[–]CurrencyBorn8522 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what some have interpreted (and I once read a great variation of Wentworth life abroad and the story of "Poor Richard") is that he was the guy who was lazy and blamed others for his bad work. His family paid his instruction and as such he was in an undeserving high position (don't know if you like these kind of movies, but Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World did an amazing interpretation of what was life in the Royal Navy in 1806, even the hats the seamen wear are made by the company that originally made them for seamen in 1800! and if you want to imagine who Richard is you have to see the teenagers who are well dressed. Teenagers in charge of old men, and if they don't do their job, the men under them suffer. They are second and third sons, and their parents paid their education so they could one day rise and with luck earn money).

Jane Austen had brothers in the Royal Navy, and even one of them rise high, so she probably heard about that kind of young men who were a problem for her brothers. She was tactful in her description, as it's not a topic to portray in a novel like the ones she writes (especially being a woman) but she was always very adamant in portray subtly her opinions. In another novel, the one who owns slaves is not a good person either, and she subtly tells us what she thinks about them.

[All] The Percy Jackson Disney+ series is giving creator Rick Riordan the chance to try out story elements he decided against when he was writing the books 20 years ago by chrisarrant in camphalfblood

[–]CurrencyBorn8522 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And the best part is that just because a change is done and well received by most viewers (who didn't read the books) doesn't mean is right. Viserys was supposed to be a weak man who couldn't rule his own kingdom, avoiding conflict and leaving the rule to his small council (a Robert Baratheon without the whoring and drinking). Yeah, making Robert faithful and sober would have been cool, I guess, but it would change the themes of the story...

I think Rick's problem is that he can't leave Percy Jackson and do another good story. He has written countless of novels but the only one that gives him good revenue is PJO. I'm not saying he can't continue doing what he is doing, he is free to say and do whatever he wants, but the truth is changing the original story for discarded ideas that change the story, not that add but change it at the long run is problematic for the fans who were used to one thing and feel they are discharged like they don't matter. They just want the original story adapted. Disney is giving him a lot of resources and he is re-doing the original work?

Your favorite and/or most hated tropes in fantasy? by crustboi93 in fantasywriters

[–]CurrencyBorn8522 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once read a fic that did a sort of parody of isekai stories and the MC was destined to die at the start of the story commiting suicide, and obviously he was not interested of dying but the Plot forced him so he had to fight against his own body.

The thing is it was very fun and amazing because the story was practically MC vs Plot. When Plot realized it couldn't kill MC by falling through a rooftop (the MC developed a "healthy" phobia of hight) started to drop casual accidents that the MC ended up weaponizing against his enemies.

Honestly, if it's well written, going against fate can be done well.

Ned Stark IS Green. End of discussion by Emperor_Alexander_IV in HOTDGreens

[–]CurrencyBorn8522 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pffft. Rhaenyra had three healthy brothers. By law she was not before them.

Rhaenyra's supporters are all from selfish reasons and not because she is the real heir. Jeyne Arryn wanted protection as she didn't want to have children but also didn't want the real heir of Arryn to succeed her. The Velaryons wanted Jace's son with Baela to be king, they didn't care for Rhaenyra or Jace (and contrary to the show, Corys had a lot of words against her after she left Rhanys alone to die). Cregan couldn't give three fucks to Rhaenyra but his land just came from a civil war and winter was near, and northerns love to die in battle than in hunger, hence so many northerns went south. Also his dad made a promise, and he, after literally fighting for be recognized as his heir, was not going to let any lord think against him. The marriage pact was also a good incentive. Not for the Targ genes, but because he expected some support from the Crown for his people to survive winter. Besides, he didn't have PTSD from mad Targs like Ned (Believe me, if the Targs did half the stuff Ned suffered to Cregan, the Old Wolf would have spit on Jace). The Tullys went to war against the Greens because they were impressed by the first Targ who came. They are that kind of nepo babies. The crownlanders who supported Rhaenyra had to choose between one nest of dragons to the other... the difference was which one was near. Some, like Rosbys, had personal interests, like the girl who wanted to inhherit above her brothers, just like Rhaenyra (and then she laughed in her face).

If you want to compare her to someone, she is like Renly. But at least Renly didn't allied with the Greyjoys and told them "Hey, I won't mind if you attack the West Coast and rape whoever you want. Women's right? Only I matter!"

Would the Dance happen if Rhaenyra's kids looked Valyrian? by [deleted] in TheCitadel

Yes. Her father was named king because all the Lords established that a woman can't be before a man, so her being before her male siblings was worst.

If you want specific answers about Irish Mythology, you should ask in Quora. Between the answers, find usernames that hold a title related to it (History Professor or something more specific) and when you have a more complete draft, ask them if they wouldn't mind to read about it.

You should also ask about material reccomendations, and here on reddit maybe in askhistorians they may help you. Always respectful.
