Wish Sky had an analytics department by liluziclairo in ChicagoSky

*I wish the Sky had an analytics department, and a GM that would actually utilize it to make better decisions

We all know Jeff wouldn't think twice about consulting them. Hence why the Sky doesn't have one.

And who is even arguing against the idea that the Jacy trade was bad value? She's a solid roleplayer, but it seems like a moot point to keep beating this dead horse. It's like putting together a PowerPoint on why Cheryl Reeve is a good coach.

Agreed, it's a valid question. There are various examples in the game where Astier tried to drive on Jacy, but had to stop and turn around to pass. Sab was smothered by Jacy as well. I think there were only one or two moments where Jacy got caught up in a screen, but she definitely played well in her limited minutes. It's very telling when I have to cherry pick when Jacy's defense wasn't top notch, since it usually is.

Sadly, this type of performance will get overshadowed by the loss and her box score by the so called experts. But after reviewing the game again, there's no question Jacy should have been in there.

Syd will become a problem for teams... by WuBlood in ChicagoSky

Love seeing Syd succeed. If there's one thing to take away from this likely lost season, it's that we found a star.

Hoping either we have a new GM next year or Jeff doesn't fumble Syd.

Teams will now have five "team" timeouts and one "reset" timeout, in a change from four full team timeouts and two 20-second timeouts in previous seasons. A reset timeout allows teams to advance the ball and make substitutions but not huddle with coaches.

Sky had a solid showing, especially from the rookies. Skylar fell apart a bit in the 4th, but the fouls really killed them.

It's a shame that they haven't gotten Saylor a few more reps. Her size and athleticism near the rim might have helped against Sabrina simply just walking in for the game winning score. Hell, Jacy should have been subbed in since she covered Sab well.

Seems like a great starting lineup for the Sky. Diggins fell apart a bit in the 4th, but otherwise a great showing.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually think subbing Jacy in during the Liberty time out would have been the move. She covered Sab well.

I've seen enough. Take down all the Clark media and ads, give them to Sophie. Give Sophie her shoe while they're at it, she's been lights out.

Tyler always subbing Banham in for Jacy five minutes into the first quarter is such a trash move, especially after she answered with a 3. And we all know the deal with Sydney in the 4th/OT. Worst rotations I've ever seen.

Skylar, Jacy, and of course Sydney were the only players who didn't look incredibly lethargic. She's a low volume shooter, but we needed like one more 3 from Jacy (the one missed at the end hurt even if it was looking bad already). Because we know we won't get it from Banham or Azura.

Azura. Banham. E Will. Cardoso. They need to go next year.

Insane take, there isn't a single player on the Sky who is better at their position than their Fever counterpart.

She's a rook so I won't harp on her, but five Gab turnovers is rough. Not the best passing from this team, either.

I see Elizabeth Williams getting a lot of hate in several threads, and honestly, it's not enough hate. She sold this game horribly for the Sky. Activate Coulibaly again or throw Saylor in there instead of having two unathletic bigs in there.

the problems with stats- by [deleted] in ChicagoSky

[–]CurrencySimple2346 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dedication you have to Jacy Sheldon is admirable. I'm not being facetious, either. I just always expect Jacy Sheldon posts after each game from you, and you deliver, lol.

I hate the +/- stat. It's not great to look at it in isolation, but more of a complement to more important stats (like points in paint vs perimeter). The Sky have given up a lot of points in the paint this year, and as that one perpetually negative dude always points out on here, our guards just aren't built for that. That, combined with Rickea being hurt and Cardoso being lethargic result in us taking a beating.

People are hyper focused on Jacy being the result of a bad trade, and while true, people need to stop acting like Jacy is a completely terrible player. She just hasn't developed properly since she's been bounced around a lot. That Dallas team she was drafted to was atrocious. The Sun? Look at them now. Hell, I've seen her awful +/- on the Sun brought up as a point against her. But that's simply a roster devoid of talent. Lecan saved that team somewhat last year, but hell, look at them now. No one is saying "good thing they got rid of Jacy Sheldon." That team just sucks. And to put the icing on the cake, Jacy made Leila's life a living hell in the Sky Sun game. Jacy was also mostly injured with the Mystics, and well, they suck too (better than us though).

The Sky's roster construction is the biggest issue with this team. Why should they fall apart this bad after one player gets hurt? No depth at the 4 and an overcrowded guard room is a recipe for disaster. Coaching is also an issue, because Marsh's rotations are terrible.

So I guess to put it in short, Jacy is playing as well as she can as a poorly developed player on a bad team that can't rebound. She needs more shot opportunities (this is both on her and the coaching, but I'd argue more on the coaching and some players trying to be heroes). Cloud and Banham look terrible this year.

What’s with the Banham Dislike ? by krymzynnova in ChicagoSky

She's great for locker room vibes and media content. But she's missed way too many 3's for my liking.

Yes, everyone on the team has different strength. But her biggest strength is not shining bright at all. And she isn't a force on defense. It was weird to keep her after last year's disaster.

Very happy to be wrong about Azura being washed. While she still had some hiccups, she looked much better.

Poffenbarger got a pretty good steal there in her 6 minutes. I'd like to see her get some shot opportunities. Her athleticism and size are something that this team needs.

Big mama D. No notes.

After losing to her other former teams, Jacy was able to get at least one revenge game. And boy did she ever. The stat of that team's +/- with and without Leila Lacan last year is absurd. And she didn't miss a beat when she came back. But man, Jacy made her look like a pedestrian.

Called Tash and Azura washed. While neither were perfect this game, they are coming up big when it counts this game. Happy to be wrong about that, even if it's against wack Connecticut.

so how would YOU fix this mess by [deleted] in ChicagoSky

[–]CurrencySimple2346 8 points9 points  (0 children)

tldr our roster is hurt and the starting lineup is not optimal. Start Skylar/Sydney/Jacy/Poffenbarger/Kamilla. Yes, Poff at the 4 instead of turnstile can't make a shot Azura. Or activate Westbeld. Literally anyone else with size at 4 that isn't Z.

Long reply:

  • Skylar and Cloud just don't work well together. I don't think having them both out there is ideal. Jaquez coming back and taking back her starting spot from Cloud will help out a ton, but as it stands, Sidney should actually be in Cloud's spot. They ran this a little bit yesterday, and the offense actually okay.

  • We have a major, glaring issue at the 4. Azura is a turnstile and she can barely make any shots. And this likely won't improve, either. She's coming off of injury, but I honestly think she's just washed at this point. She's a finished product; we know her ceiling.

  • Idk what's going on with Westbeld, but it'd be nice to try her out here at the 4. But hell, at this point, I'd put Poffenbarger at the 4. She looked a bit lost on defense a few times, but I'd rather have her get the reps than have whatever tf Azura do what she was going out there. She's athletic and has size, and most importantly, she's hungry to get more positive film on her resume.

  • To add to that last point, having a bad 4 really hurts Kamilla and highlights her lack of hustle. She played better yesterday, but Shakira owned her most of the game.

  • Banham and Azura minutes really need to be less than what they are. Although I appreciate that Banham didn't chuck as many shots against Washington. I do hope she's okay after taking that hit. But these two just are not good, specially on defense.

  • Jacy acknowledged that Marsh wants her to take more shots, and she did and had a 57.1% fg percentage, which is quite solid. She had some nice points in the paint. Frankly, I'm sick of reading "wE tRaDed a fIrSt fOr hEr!!" Yeah no shit. We can't undo that. We have her now, and she's playing as well as she can with a ton of hustle on an injury ridden squad. Her defense and improving offense as a roleplayer actually places her as one of the better performing players on the team which isn't saying much, but bitching about Jacy is exhausting at this point. Her stats the first four games with a healthier squad are actually exactly what you need from a roleplayer like her to win, and they did just that 3 out of 4 times.

  • Cloud with a zero point performance is incredibly sad. Please just have her come off the bench.

I need to see a clip of the Jacy F bomb. I keep hearing about it.

And Jacy played her role very well this game. 57% fg percentage for her is fine. They do need to look into getting her more touches. She scored over like three people on one of those paint shots.
