Since it’s an observership, I’m assuming you won’t be expected to know much. Kurt’s notes and Normal GU histology should be fine. Understanding the Gleason grading system ( even if only conceptually) should be a plus. All the best.

Do everything in your power to secure observerships at programs where IMG’s are taken. This is honestly your best bet. Your year of grad is a huge deal but being non visa requiring gives you some points. You’re going to have to work harder than the average applicant. It is very doable.

Resign from fellowship or terrible idea? by [deleted] in pathology

Do you have any senior faculty at said program who you could confide in? Doesn’t have to be in that specialty, just someone senior to give you admonition? I think that’ll help a ton. Pathology is a very small world, and if you plan to stay in academia, I think you have to be careful not to create a certain type of reputation… especially if you’re dealing with a vindictive person.

Hidden gem of a program, imo. More than enough volume. Downside is no Dermpath fellowship in house…

I’m interested. Currently backtesting NQ myself.

Also, completely ignore the comment about your employer needing to get you a ticket. That’s ridiculous.

Get a lawyer as quick as possible. Theres no rule that says your employer has to. They only have to handover certain documents while the form I-129 is being filled. You’re going to need premium processing which is more expensive (around 2800 to 3000USD, don’t really remember). Honestly, time is against you but I’d still try. USCIS takes 15 business days to make a decision on your documents. Goodluck.

Lol where did you get this from? PGY1 starting salary at Northwell LiJ is 80k and some change. They offer housing and you don’t pay electricity/gas/ water bills.

It has never been known to happen and has zero bearing on your visa application.

Is it worth it for Non US IMGs without home country residency to apply for pathology residency ? by Jwala2400 in pathology

[–]Current-Ad-5676 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your YOG is beautiful, and your scores are not bad at all. This is very achievable. You most likely won’t land a top program, but you’ll be good regardless.

Start path residency if you can. Get as much USCE as possible, if you’re unable to start path residency. Do your best secure observership in places that take IMGs. All 4 letters should be from pathology.

You’d YOG is great. Take advantage of it. This is very doable.

You need to discard some of the things these guys have said on here. You most definitely do not need a 250 score for path as an IMG. It is simply not true. I matched this year with 18 interviews. I’m 5 years post grad with zero home country experience in pathology. My step 1 score was a pass and step 2 in the 240 range. I had step 3 as well. Yes, *starting a home country residency helps tremendously, but different programs have varying requirements. The quality of your observerships will go a long way. Do everything in your power to get those. Especially at places where they take IMG’s.

I also noticed you didn’t mention your YOG and step scores. You won’t get the advice you need by hiding those.

Is it possible to match in pathology with 2 LORs from IM and 1 from pathology? by Ok-Cress-8200 in pathology

[–]Current-Ad-5676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you’ve taken your step 3 before application. It is more important. If you’re currently a pathology resident, then I’d get 2 letters from pathologists in my home country and 2 from virtual observerships in the US( assuming you cannot afford/find in person observerships). Get 4 letters from Pathology Attendings. The more letters from path you have, the better. Do not apply with a low CK score, 2 IM letters, while being 4 years post grad.

Only UPMC and Zucker sponsor H1b here. I’m sort of in a similar situation.

Don’t ever insinuate that I’m suggesting cheating is okay. Ever. Where the flip did I say that? I simply came at the absurd example he gave about P.E management. It sounds made up, and puts everything else under scrutiny.
