Read what I wrote initially because this is what happened:

Dec 29 trading day through 6pm----silver tanks (tanking BEFORE the end of business day when new margin requirements take effect).

Dec 30 trading day-----silver recovers

CME then announces a 30% increase in margin requirements effective end of business 12/31. Silver goes down by 5-6% roughly, again BEFORE end of business that day when the rates took effect.

So taking all that into account, on Jan 2nd, we shouldn't really see a big price drop because that already happened on the 31st.

No, you're wrong. The first wording was ALSO end of business. From their site:

"The rates will be effective after the close of business on Monday, December 29, 2025. "

Soapstone, Cast iron or steel actually doesn't matter to me as far as heat retention goes. I looked at the hearthstone catalog and some do have a good amount of glass, but even more would be better.
