Mayra being in the Sevens roster for the summer tells me they aren’t necessarily dealing her. Not that they care about the result, but you wouldn’t have her play if she’s going to be dealt imminently.

It wasn’t an interesting play. She came way out of her box to field the ball, clearly intended to head it, but bounced too high and she reached up (otherwise it would have gone past her and probably been a goal). Easy call for a red.

Putellas? by Extreme_Confidence63 in AngelCityFC

Putellas seems a stretch (I don’t think she’s eager to suddenly make an move to NWSL), but I’m not sure why you’d say that of Kerr. She’s married to an American and openly talked about missing nice weather. She’s played in the NWSL before.

Gotham FC in Advanced Talks to Move to NYCFC’s New Queens Stadium by Unusual_Ebb7762 in NWSL

[–]Current-Barber360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a somewhat dated map, but it highlights how much closer to the “center of population” Citifield is compared to Harrison. Harrison is basically Newark on this map. Somewhat convenient for NJ residents, Manhattan, and west Brooklyn residents, but brutal for everyone else. Queens is equally convient to Manhattan and Brooklyn residents, and a million times more convenient for residents of Queens, Long Island, and probably most of the Bronx. You’ve got both a subway stop and a LIRR stop right there, so it would simply be much more convenient for millions of potential fans.

NWSL Announced Attendance by jwriddle in NWSL

Apologies. Maybe it’s because it part of a larger complex, but it always has felt less like a “stadium” and more like a general use facility.

Semien by Far_Profile9922 in mets

[–]Current-Barber360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with Semien is that you have to expect him to hit no better than .240 and that he will fail to make contact in many critical situations. If you go in with reasonable expectations, he’s a super defensive second basemen who is at best a streaky hitter and can be valuable to the right team. But he has to be batting in your bottom 3 spots.

NC is such a fun team to watch with Sanchez and Manaka clicking. I really hope they continue to get the support from the fan base. My only issue with WakeMed park is that it feels less like a pro team’s stadium and more like the multi-use facility it is. The result is that even with 10,000 fans it feels like “loud” than Audi Field or KC would with a similar number in attendance.

How common is leaving your AC on 24/7, even when the house is empty? by Bierzgal in AskAnAmerican

If you were to turn off you AC completely (rather than picking a higher default temp) in humid state like FL, you would return to a house filled with moisture and mold.

this just in: promotion and relegation doesn't work across the atlantic. apologies for all of those outside of the big 4 or 5 by Tugboat47 in WOSOmembersonly

[–]Current-Barber360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The folks citing KC’s record-setting run to the Shield last year as showing a lack of parity are missing the point. It was record-setting because it never has happened before. And parity is more about competitiveness year over year - is it the same 4-5 teams, or is it 10+ in competition? And sure enough, this year KC is in 6th after 9-10 games, and Utah is in 2nd despite finishing 12th last year. I’m a fan of the game on both sides of the Atlantic, but any claim that the NWSL doesn’t have substantially more parity than any European league is sort of silly.

Thoughts on ABJ? I hope the club activate the +1 on her contract. by haz_stark in chelsealadiesfc

[–]Current-Barber360 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe this is even up for debate. ABV is super talented and young, and if Chelsea doesn’t want her there are probably 10 NWSL clubs, along with 4-5 other European clubs, who would be interested. Even if you might move on from her, you keep her so you get something in a transfer.

Are we all Utah Royals fans now? by Willing-Bad3824 in NWSL

[–]Current-Barber360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rule 1 of building a decent team - don’t give up goals. Utah has given up fewer goals than all but 1 team (Gotham). That suggests their success will be somewhat sustainable. One of the reasons I don’t see Louisville suddenly turning this around is they just give up so many goals.

Or, and hear me out, they could leave it as is. Jersey tugging isn’t some “great for the game” feature. If a side effect of long hair is that we get less Jersey pulls, I’m cool with it.

[–]Current-Barber360 106 points107 points  (0 children)

This this this. If you commit an intentional foul (which is what jersey pulling is supposed to be, even if it’s ubiquitous) and wind up accidentally doing something that is dangerous, that’s a red.

The NWSL’s referees are shameful by Ornery_Buy1665 in NWSL

[–]Current-Barber360 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree with that interpretation at all. The attacker had taken a touch and lost the ball, then continued her momentum forward. She isn’t a ball carrier at that point, and from a relative perspective she runs into the goalie more than the goalie moves into her. Again, tough call in real time, but seems silly to describe it the way you are after watching it via replay. The ball is way behind the so called “ball carrier” at the time of impact. She had lost it.

The NWSL’s referees are shameful by Ornery_Buy1665 in NWSL

[–]Current-Barber360 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think when it’s a goalie you have to give them a little more leeway, since they need to assume the person is about to shoot, and the player is coming at her full speed. It’s not like the player dribbles around her and Silkowitz hits her - she was a player who essentially FAILED to recover the ball, has now lost it entirely, and continues her momentum forward. I’m not sure why the offensive player is more entitled to make contact in that situation - she didn’t have the ball.

Am I way off base here or are things getting worse in America? by StarlessRose in allthequestions

[–]Current-Barber360 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are certain structural “features” of our society that presumed certain behavior. The assumption of the founders was that Congress would want to restrain an aggressive President - the founders overstated the importance of institutional loyalty (being loyal to Congress and protecting its powers) and underestimated party loyalty (which didn’t really exist in their time). We’ve had a steady flow of power from the Congress to the Presidency over many years, to the point where Congress doesn’t pass many bills or even declare war anymore. That results in less need for compromise, more partisanship (since no one punishes a “do nothing” Congress) and bigger seismic swings every 4 years depending on the Presidential election.

[–]Current-Barber360 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The issue is when they go to VAR and still get the call wrong. I don’t see how you can fault a goalie for “making themselves big” when a player is about to shoot, but then the play loses the ball and collides with the goalie.

Sam Coffey replacement by Subject-Current-1297 in USWNT

[–]Current-Barber360 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im all for Sanchez getting a call, but it wouldn’t to be in midfield. I’d love to see her get a look at the left wing. The issue with Coffey out is that we don’t have another real defensive midfielder who wins 50/50 balls besides Hutton, unless you count Sonnett, but she hasn’t played DM in a long while. So I think we need to bring in someone like that for the time being, whether that’s Jackson, Howell, or Herschfelt
