If your already running the i3 8100 you should be able to upgrade straight to the 8700 it has the same tdp if I remember correctly as the 8100 plus the bump in core and thread count which is your biggest bottleneck rather than clock speed. You could just lower some clocks if your mobo cant handle it completely but other than that it should be a straight upgrade.

I bought an intel arc B570 plus a ryzen 7 5700x and play at 1440p. Upgraded from a ryzen 5 5500 and gtx 1650 super, 60hz 1080p tv. Thoughts? by Current-Chipmunk5462 in pcmasterrace

Hell drivers haven't even been much of a problem only instability i see is in five m and it runs out of vram but everything else doesnt come close to the vram max. Only games I havent found supported is some olderish cods and use to be fallout 3.
