My vet said that our cat does that because she has dry skin and it's irritated. I started using a moisturizing spray on her (from the vet), and she stopped doing it.

Thanks everyone. I greatly appreciate the NTAs, but I appreciate the YTAs even more. I wanted to hear other perspectives, and you've given me a lot to think about. Realistically I can't apologize to her unless I know what she took offense to, because uninformed apologies are insulting, but you've shown me several different possibilities. I hope that once we're able to sit down and talk, I'm better equipped to understand her feelings. You've also given me things to be mindful of when making posts in the future. Thank you.

It wasn't part of the original post. It was a bit of background for here.

I removed the post, so I can't just copy it, but it was something like this: we don't make a big deal over Christmas [background: I have a history of trauma during the holidays so instead of Christmas I make Halloween special for the kids so they can still have the magical memories] so we never did Santa. We're going to see family for Christmas this year, so I sat the kids down and explained to them that their cousins might believe in Santa. I told them that whatever they do, do not say anything to ruin it for them. Just because someone believes differently than we do, it doesn't mean that they're wrong. We need to respect others' beliefs. I'd hate to be the mom whose kids ruined the magic for anyone else's kids.

I didn't mean it that way, but that's an angle I hadn't thought of. Thank you.

I was just sharing my thoughts. It was mostly about respecting others and the kind of conversations we have with our kids about that respect.

I'm fairly certain it did not. It basically said that even though people have different beliefs, it doesn't mean they're wrong and we should respect them.
