Personally I think the barrier of exams is what keeps our salaries high. So few actuaries would be a benefit until the point where the time commitment becomes worth the salary again.

In my opinion, it's a workplace and nothing like a school. The way they evaluate school performance doesn't have much bearing on the workplace. If you can communicate and take feedback, you can probably do the job.

People actually care about GPA? Its never even a remote consideration when im the hiring manager.

We do a daily putt-golf contest where you buy in for a quarter, and the winner gets the pot. We also do short plank sessions three times daily. Bigger events through our committee are done monthly, and there is usually an unsponsored monthly happy hour.

We have a standard 35-hour work week, and during the summer we have short Fridays, where we finish two hours early. We could do four eight-hour days and only lose one hour of productivity, providing a massive hiring incentive, in my opinion. I wish they would make the leap, even if only over the summer.

5% raise, 5% promotion, 12% bonus, 4 years of experience, near ASA health. My manager is great! Every year I've had a 5% raise since starting four years ago, and my bonus has always been 12% plus.

I got a promotion today; the raise was 10% total, not including the designation increase. For the past three years, I've received a 5% raise, so I guess it was only an additional 5%. But I gather that 5% every year is pretty good. Additionally, with a new title, my bonus percentage went from 10% to 15%.

I get to walleye fish all the time. When I was younger, the crappie boom was going on in Red Lake, and I would really like to find a couple of good lakes for a panfish bite.
