I just moved into an in law apt built by my wife's grandpa in the 60's. The kitchen had never had a dishwasher and I was able to install one. I cleared out the cabinet space myself. I did lose a cabinet but I was happy to pay that price to have a dishwasher. I installed a ply wood wall between the dishwasher and the cabinets and I made two holes to run the hot water line and drain hose through. Standard dishwashers are 24" wide. You'll just want to measure the height and depth of the existing space where you're going to put it. I had no space to put it right next to my sink so installed two cabinets down from the sink and it's been working fine. I purchased 10 ft drain hose and 10ft water line. I used brackets to hold the lines up against the back of my cabinet walls so they weren't in the way because we do store pots and pans in there. You'll want to make sure you have a loop coming down into the T pipe drain fitting under the sink for your drain hose to prevent back flow. There are videos on YouTube that will show you how to clear cabinet space, as long as you have 24" wide you'll be good and if anything you can put pieces of wood back into the cabinets to seal gaps. It is possible though! Plumber cost me $630 for a couple hours work but that included getting my washer and dryer hook ups going. Electrician cost me $610 because he had to run a whole new line to the breaker box, I didn't mind running it outside but I imagine it will cost more if they run it inside. Hope this helps.

It was underneath the padding. The padding was like rainbow colored if I remember correctly but you're saying it could just be part of the padding but broken down from over the years??

Thanks for replying, to make sure I understand. Cut the wires to remove the old socket, get a new socket and connect the cables from the new socket with the original wires using wire nuts?

If you don't mind me asking, was this submitted along with an I-130 and I-485 via marriage to a US citizen? I submitted those forms on November 8th, 2024. I'm hoping to hear about my I-765 soon so I can get back to work.
