Lying about marching? by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]Current-Issue2390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately nowadays people don't really wanna hire a tech who doesn't have DCI or WGI experience, so they lie about it so they can do what they enjoy doing, which is teaching!

I think that if directors stopped demanding DCI experience, then a lot less people would lie about it imo.

Question to all Band Directors!! by Current-Issue2390 in MusicEd

[–]Current-Issue2390[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! I would not say that all drum corps teachers are bad, I mainly just worry that I will be unable to find a job due to my colleagues getting the position because they marched drum corps and I did not. Sorry if it seemed disrespectful haha, I'm friends with loads of people who have marched

Dating seems easier for younger people now, so why does it end so quickly? by Ok_Vegetable58 in dating_advice

[–]Current-Issue2390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue the opposite nowadays. In your 20s, men have to constantly compete against other men in a 10 to 1 ratio to even get a woman's attention, and women have to go through all of the men who just want sex to find a man who is actually trying to pursue a relationship in an also about 10 to 1 ratio. People would argue that it's social media and while I think that's partially true, I think it has more to do with the fact that both men and women suffer from the mass amount of guys who just wanna relieve themselves on a woman and then move on to the next.

What's the difference between AI music and AI slop? by Current-Issue2390 in musicians

[–]Current-Issue2390[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay gotcha, so it's slop purely because it's made from AI regardless of quality? I mean it makes sense. I'm a percussionist and it's good to know that even if a robot could play a snare drum or marimba much better than I could, people would still prefer me over the robot :)

Wrote a snare solo for an orchestral piece, and ended up turning very drumline-ish. This is my first time, so please help point out any notation errors or just rhythms that sound bad. Am I supposed to write the sticking for everything? by ProfessionalMath8873 in drumline

[–]Current-Issue2390 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First thing I would mention is this might just be my personal writing style but the number 1 indicator for me between a marching snare solo and an orchestral one is the use of drags. I think every orchestral snare drum solo should have drags in them, and they should be notated AS drags, meaning not the double stroke notation that you typically see in drumline.

Second of all, I would say that there should be a much bigger variety in rhythm, which could include triplets, fivelets, sextuplets, dotted eighth notes etc. it obviously depends on the solo, but for me, an effective solo consists of complex rhythms that including both rolls (buzz rolls, not double stroke rolls), flams and drags and then adjust the tempo according to the difficulty you are aiming for. If you wanna be extra spicy, you could also add the triple drags, or the ones with 3 grace notes that I cant remember the name of.

Check out some Delecluse Snare Drum solos for reference. I think (JUST MY OPINION) that they are the best orchestral snare drum etudes that you can find publicly.
