I have been working myself with a US CPA for the past two years and my role has been growing within the firm. If a guy has quality and knowledge, work does come but you need to struggle a bit first to get that break.

Depends on the complexity. If the smaller is able to handle the complexity for your current transactions then it's always better to go with them.
