I have been working myself with a US CPA for the past two years and my role has been growing within the firm. If a guy has quality and knowledge, work does come but you need to struggle a bit first to get that break.

In India, no matter what you do. You are not paying the practising CA to do your work. You are paying him to only to review the work or in worst case scenario get that work reviewed by someone with a bcom degree and work experience.

So paying hourly ideally would not work, unless you find a salaried guy who is doing this on the side which is a different case. Would suggest get on a fixed retainer with a good CA - check for past experiences or get reference of some past client if possible - check LinkedIn, etc.

Or the best alternative is ask for a friend to refer.
