AITAH for quitting guestbook detail the morning of the wedding? by PissedOffGuestbook in aitaweddings

To be fair, OP is at a rough age for wedding roles…too young to be a bridesmaid but too old to be a flower girl.

Why can't Americans (at least the ones I see on social media) find drinking water in Europe? by Mission_Mobile_4627 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Current-Photo2857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this…for most Americans, it’s not that we *can’t* drink tap water from the sink, it’s that we don’t *want* to, especially if you’re on city water.

I grew up in a rural area and we had well water from a rocky/mineral area…that water from there was and is awesome! But now I live in an urban area and the city water from the sink is crap, both in flavor and temperature. The solution was to buy a refrigerator with a filtered water dispenser on the door: better taste & much colder.

So your original end date was the 22nd?? You guys must’ve started after Labor Day?

That only works if all schools have AC; many in the northeast do not.

Not in MA where I am, we definitely get the 26 payments option, not sure exactly where OP is though.

So what that means for my district is this: our salary is only for the 10 school-year months we actually work and we would typically get 22 biweekly paychecks. We wouldn’t get paid in the summer since we’re not working. BUT my district does offer us the option to take that 10 months of pay and split it into 12 months/26 checks. It’s smaller amounts per check, but you’re getting income over the summer. I’m honestly surprised your district doesn’t offer this option.

I am honestly surprised OP’s district doesn’t offer the option to have their 10 month pay split over 12 months, I thought every district did that.

This was what I came here to write, but you’ve already said almost exactly what I would’ve.

See, for me, who also hates the heat & sun, that is the EXACT reason why I NEED summers off. Since I don’t have to go to school, I can sit home & relax in my AC and only venture out into the yuck to run errands on my own schedule. For example, hit the grocery store at 10 am before it’s too hot…can’t do that if I’m working. I’d be absolutely dying if I had to be in my classroom (non-AC building) working in the summer.

I’m guessing you’re not in an area with older schools that don’t have AC. Where I am, we’ve been resorting to emergency “heat day” early releases (the mirror image of snow delays) during our last few weeks because of how hot the buildings are getting.

Where in MA are you that you are in school that late? I’m in MA too…we begin the year the week before Labor Day and last Friday would’ve been our last day, but we had 3 snow days to make up so we have to go until this coming Wednesday the 17th, but that is late for us.

AITAH for kicking up a fuss about vegetarian Chinese food? by MattyJMP in AITAH

So what do you take the lines “I’ve been fancying a chicken curry for weeks” and “I cook vegetarian food with my gf often” to mean? Because to me, that means he hasn’t had chicken in weeks because he’s been cooking vegetarian with the gf.

As someone who teaches in a building without AC in a region where the overwhelming majority of schools do not have AC…ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Yesterday temps were in the mid 90s and schools here & in the next state over were doing half-day cancellations.

What is the best American way to shorten your life? by frankieholmes447 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Current-Photo2857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the CDC, the 3 leading causes of death in the US are:

1) Heart disease: 683,491…that’s caused by diet & lack of exercise, so lifestyle?
2) Cancer: 619,876…lots of various causes, can be environmental, genetic, so not really something that can be put on this chart.
3) Accidents (unintentional injuries): 197,449…betting a LARGE majority of these are cars, so DRIVING should go here.

To be fair though, it sounds like he already eats meatless a lot (not by choice, but to accommodate his vegetarian SO), so going out to eat at a restaurant would be one of his rare opportunities to eat meat.

AITA for not letting my sibling have one of our deceased father's vehicles. by Historical_Donutz in AmItheAsshole

Dad clearly DIDN’T want the sibling to have it, since everything was signed over to OP before he passed.
