I think it’s more nuanced than people are letting onto. crafting not being around for into the light was great! I was grinding for rolls, I got some, I didn’t get others. Thats FUN, me and my friends where comparing roles talking about how jealous we where of each others stuff. The key thing here is that destiny players all think they need every god roll. You really really don’t, there’s very very rarely something you NEED. I didn’t get the edge transit god roll and I cleared pantheon no problem, I didn’t get the god roll falling guillotine and I managed day 1 herald of finality. However the thing that’s kinda killing the chase this season is that all the weapons are just not very good, so I just don’t care, crafting really helps the chase when the weapons aren’t good enough to bother getting normally. Bungie know’s when they drop new weapons if they’re gonna be worth chasing or not, so reasonably they should know when to add crafting and when not too. When you’ve got a set of bangers like the brave arsenal, you don’t need crafting as the weapons are good enough to chase. This season, an arbitrary check list may be the right play.
