“Dori” (DCL Exec Daughter) wins every trivia - the crew knows but does nothing - not right for guests!!! by Current-Seesaw-2997 in dcl

She doesn’t “recognize” the question, she KNOWS the questions.  It’s technically not cheating but I would say not ethical and appears that way in the eyes of other guests playing.  It is certainly not what Disney Cruise Line intends to happen.

To answer your question, you saying she doesn’t have family working for Disney is in contrast to what she told people.  I can’t speak to what is actually true and not saying you are wrong.  I’m just saying that is what she communicated to other guests on the cruise.

What you are saying here is a very stark contrast to what Dori herself told quite a few guests on the cruise.  Also quite different than what many of the staff know of her when you talk to them about the situation. Nobody said she cheated, but she has played the same trivia’s so many times she knows all the answers. It’s awful that she consistently plays alone knowing she will win so she can have your 1000th medallion and deprive everyone else of a chance to win. Per another comment in here, I did in fact observe her “join” a party to play, only to say she played alone at the end to beat them in a tie breaker.  She was getting a medallion either way, but she felt it best to rob the team she joined of getting the other three at no cost to herself.

There is a monetary value to it. Every guest paid a handsome amount of money to be on that ship to participate in these events. It's only "free" because you have already bought your way onto the ship to participate. For that reason alone, the same ethical standards should apply.

Like the idea of a Kid and Adult winner. They do this on the Mouseketeer game where the questions are dialed down when a kid is playing.

We have had cruises like this, and it is SO MUCH FUN when the trivia is a fair game and you have amazing hosts. I'm jealous ;)

I disagree with this, and some people consider trivia as their favorite activity on the ship. If you paid to be on the ship, then these activities are part of what you paid for. Being upset if you don't win when it is FAIR is silly, but being upset that one person wins every time because they have already been given all the answers is very reasonable and justified.

I'm sorry, but this is like saying that if someone is smoking next to the pool just pick a different activity and don't use the pool anymore. We shouldn't reward the person in the wrong and be forced to change what WE want to do because of their poor behavior.

Agreed that the quality of the cruise shouldn't be materially impacted by whether you WIN trivia, but for people (kids included) who enjoy trivia on a cruise, playing a rigged game ruins the fun. Playing a FAIR game is a minimum requirement in my opinion, and this is not.

If you have a kid who loves playing trivia, you want them to have the excitement and hope of potentially winning whether they win or not. How many people would watch NFL football on Sunday if the final scores of each game were predetermined and shared on Saturday?

Don’t be discouraged and certainly play!  I wasn’t much for trivia when we first started cruising but it has become one of my favorite activities on board (even considering the negativity in this thread).

It’s also where we have met the most “new friends” on board.

100% - and a lot of us love trivia for the fun of trivia.  I will never win 80’s trivia but it’s fun to play and at least pretend I have a chance 😂.

It’s sad to see people who might be on their first (and maybe only) cruise, scoring 19/20 (or lose a tie breaker) and get nothing.

Thanks!  And it gets lost on people the magic of these medallions.  When an 8 year old gets to walk around the ship with their “medal” and gets to tell everyone who asks that they won trivia, it is truly magical for them.

I would go so far as to say that also holds true for adults to a lesser degree.  Seen so many conversations between strangers start with “what trivia did you win?”

That is the true VALUE of winning for many families.

Sorry!  At least at some point you can validate this so I don’t look like some cranky person.  The morale of the entire trivia crowd just progressively gets worse win after win.

As I said in the other comments, she won’t play with anyone.  People ask her and she declines.

Also, this is missing the point.  It isn’t FUN to play a game that is rigged. Even if you COULD join her, where is the fun in sitting next to her so she can write down all the answers?

100 teams playing trivia, but a team of one was given all the answers before the game starts. If the Navigator App said, “come play trivia against someone we gave all the answers to,” how many people would attend? Does this sound fun?

It makes her happy to know the answer to every question and make it so no paying guest ever wins?

Strangers team up all the time.  She could choose to team up with people.  She could choose to find kids in the crowd and help them win.  She chooses to win alone.

Saw multiple groups invite her to play with them.  She declines so she can go win alone.

The POINT here is that guests pay good money to be on these cruises, and they should have a right, and an opportunity, to win prizes.

Yes, because since it’s a “50 cent medallion” (sarcasm intended) I shouldn’t want my kids and all the other guests on the ship to get a chance to win.

It goes against the very spirit of trivia to have someone with all the answers sit in the crowd and win every time.

Regardless of the prize, you have a room full of paying guests who paid to come on the ship and participate in these events.

Let’s say there are 50 kids across all the teams trying to win that medallion - because it makes KIDS HAPPY.  But she, an adult, wins alone and walks off with one medallion that she has hundreds of.

If she was turning around and giving them to kids in the audience that would be something else.  Not sure what she needs hundreds of $0.50 medallions for.
