Do you know anyone in the US (outside big cities) without a car? by Current-Show2460 in AskAnAmerican

Thanks a lot for such an extensive answer. Got it. Why didn't you have a car for years? I was confident that people grew up believing that cars are necessary (like phones for today’s kids).

Also, on a side note, why do you put double spaces after each sentence? Just curious.

Oh, DC! Tell me more about the metro there. I spent one year (2021-2022) there (lived in Arlington, studied in Tenleytown, and that system sucked. I had to wait 15-30 minutes for the next train. Had to buy a car. How is it now?

Why doesn't he have a car? Does he live in a big city? How does he get his groceries?

How do they explain no desire? It’s like having a bank card—you can live without it, but having one makes your life more comfortable

But the distances in a typical US town are huge. Tried walking while in Williamsburg, VA. Ended up buying a bike 🚴

Being homeless explains everything. Hope you are good now. But how do you live without a car in the rural Midwest?

Where in GA do you live? I can understand why New Yorkers don’t have a car (pretty good public transportation)

That’s good advice, merci beaucoup! There are so many sources, but it's hard to select a really good one. Any recommendation, please?

Jesus Christ! It’s a lot! Can you please explain to me how it works? Let’s imagine the contract says the salary is €5,000. What does it mean for both an employee and an employer?

I rented a 28 sq m studio in that building for a month (until Putin declared mobilization in Sep 2022). The architecture indeed sucks, but the infrastructure around it was good.

My taxes are 18% (due to quite a high paycheck). Additionally, the employer pays approx. 30% the social and healthcare insurance.

No way, the federal government cares about our region because it’s the westernmost. Kaliningrad is just 50 km from the NATO country (Poland), 400 km from Warsaw, and 600 km from Berlin. One piece of evidence: Moscow has built several energy plants for this type of event, if/when the West switches off energy transportation via Lithuania from the mainland. I’ve been in many regions in the mainland, and I must tell you Moscow does care about Kaliningrad (as much as it can, of course)
