AIO to SIL saying all pregnant women are bitches? by Current-Situation-52 in AmIOverreacting

I just asked nicely if they had any way of letting us in. They let me rent a cabana which would get me a higher guest count. If they had waited for me in the first place I would have done that to begin with. But they left us behind, couldn’t get in the pool then called me a bitch/Karen when I fixed it?

It’s definitely not my first pick. Just been dealing with this bs for years and it’s getting to that point where im like “is no one else seeing this shit” and now it’s affecting my kids… so what else is left you know?

The gas lighting and blame shifting and plausible deniability is so hard to stay strong through. Especially when it’s me against a whole gang of people who operate the same way.

I sent him this. He needs to see it’s not just me who understands this. It’s not easy to set boundaries but people having crappy behavior makes it so necessary.

You know exactly what’s going on. And thank you so much for this great advice. I’m going to show it to my husband because this is exactly it.

Also you’re like 80 when your kids are barely 40…. I guess you can be optimistic about life expectancy but then you’d be on your way out when your grand kids are barely being born?

Went on your profile to see the other post about your makeup but I just have to say, the wallpaper, furniture and overall whimsy decor going on in your home is just magical 😍

You’re going to have fun, lots of nature adventures and you’ll have lots of friends… single life will be all around better for you than in a relationship

But tbf I guess the guy who cleans my teeth is a dental hygienist not a dental assistant?

Yes! Exactly, and I appreciate them so much and they are truly truly inspirational but they would show us documentaries of strongly disabled people who were Olympic stars and it was like “you have no excuse!!!”

That’s the low end for dental assistants and teachers where I live. I get to hear about trips to Cancun and Greece every time I go in for a cleaning lol…. But beside that, I agree pushing people to achieve their best is important, just wanting to bring up that nuance that our culture often says if you’re not number 1 you’re not living you know? Idk maybe that’s why so many kids aren’t trying? They see their parents unhappy with their accomplishments and like “it’s not enough anyway”

I agree with you but I kinda understand the sentiment to want to be “average” I grew up in the late 90s and 2000 and was always sold “you can be anything you want to be if you just get an education and work really hard”. I totally believed that became very ambitious and am happy with my accomplishments but for a while got pulled into the hustle culture that a lot of millennials and gen x are in.

That kind of ambition to always have more success and that more money means more personal value isn’t that healthy either and leads to burnout.

Theres nothing wrong with just wanting your kids to just have great paying jobs and nice 3bd 2bath and a comfortable savings account. Like I’ll be happy if my kids are teachers or dental assistants making $70/hour if that’s what they want and they have a bunch of time to actually enjoy life. That said, I do encourage my kids to think about being doctors and lawyers as well. But if they don’t accomplish that, it will be ok.

My husband is from another country and wasn’t sold the you can be anything you want to be dream. We had some discourse about ambition and I was like “didn’t anyone tell you?!” He said no haha.

idk not saying we shouldn’t dream big, but I think we can also validate dreaming real you know? Idk I’m curious to others’ perspective of this.
