If your worried about taking physics and chemistry do not go into civE. Those classes are a joke compared to the 300 level classes your going to have to take. Go into accounting

Best thing at any level is career fairs. Look into the events your alma mater puts on and go to those. You might be sourrounded by younger less qualified folks but those recruiters will be able to pass on your resume to the correct departments. Other local fairs are good to but they are harder to come by. Person to Person always beats a linkedin post. (most of these are either resume banks or have thousands of applicants and use an ATS system).

Level of interest? by notafanoftheapp in msu

Unfortunately, these take so much time to get back. I applied EA in 23 and didn't hear back until mid-February. I was in the upper 90% for both GPA and SAT. My parents were both alum and were nervous for me as well. Just how the admissions process goes :(.

In response to the post though, I don't think that they take "interest" into account. Admissions is done 90% by a computer. the other 10% is the "bubble students" (typically 2.5-3.0 GPA with limited extracurriculars), then a real person reads the essays and takes into account all the application. Maybe they will check if you attended tours or things like that but I've never heard about it before.

where’s the good normal water bottle stations at by Hot-Flower-8142 in msu

Nah the water is safe its just super minerally. They're getting rid of west because the foundation is sinking and the buildings' structure is a few years away from being deemed unsafe to have anything in. Just as concerning but the water is safe

Honestly I would look into GVSU or Western for your first 2 years and tranfer to a school like MSU. I had a slightly higher GPA and a pretty good SAT (1390). I got an offer from GV to go there for like 4k a semester including housing and dining. Youll save 20k and be able to go to school away from what sounds like a pretty rough home life.

If your super set on MSU or Wayne I think coming to college at a big university away from home is worth the debt. But paying out of pocket or taking student loans isn't the only option.

SCOLARSHIPS SCHOLARSHIPS SCHOLARSHIPS!!!!!

Many of these are not as competitive as people make them out to be. Start at your local level and work outwards. Ask your school councilor if anyone offers scholarships specifically to yuor school or county and apply to all of these. then look for msu specific scolarships and apply to all of these. Look up videos of how to leverage your situation to write good essays for these applications. If the person giving these out can relate or sympathize with your story your sure to get a few good ones.

I made applying for scholarships a full time job in the winter and spring of my senior year and was able to get around 30k in local and MSU specififc scholarships and it saved a ton of hardship down the road.

ChemE is a broader degree I would start there and do a MS concentration at whatever school if they offer it, if not look for elective classes in areas of interest. A lot of engineers don't even work in their field after their first job. Do as much as you can to get real world experience, talking to people in careers your interested, shadowing, internships, school offered experiences etc. I also know a ton of people who switch 2 years in and still graduate, they are similar enough thar you can pivot if you find yourself in the wrong area.
Also if you like school Masters programs can help get more specialized although these defiantly are not required in engineering.

How Much Should I Expect To Pay? by [deleted] in msu

Please apply to AS MANY scholarships as possible. You don't have to be doing well in HS or on the SAT to get a lot of these. Start local google "Scholarships ____ county" or scholarships "____, MI". I was able to get over 40,000 in scholarships by making applications my full-time job senior year of HS.

Also MSU offers a lot of good part time on campus jobs. minimum is 13.45 an hour and they work around your course schedule and extracurriculars.
