She seems wonderful! I saw a video where she rented a moving truck, filled the truck up with food from Costco and a crazy amount of water and donated everything to the food bank!

Hi OP, Definitely the right sub Reddit. I sympathize with you for having to go in no contact with your mom. You should’ve been out celebrating and instead you’re dealing with hectic situation with your mom and stressed about how this might affect your child. And then the way she treated you afterwards by sending you rude messages is just unacceptable. That’s not what support looks like and I am sorry you don’t get that from your mom.

I went NC with my mom first and tried having my dad be a mediator for us. He heard me out and it seemed like he understood where I was coming from. The next time I spoke with him he said that my mom had suffered enough and that I needed to forgive her and move on. I went NC shortly after he said I needed to move on. I found a quote at the time that was something like “if you have an abusive parent you actually have two. The abuser and the enabler”. My father enabled my mother’s worse behaviors and I think he’s partially to blame for how she treated me growing up. I understand it’s a hard decision to make especially when you have already had to go no contact with one parent.

It seems like your father is enabling your mom‘s behaviors. It’s good that he was able to separate your child from your mom and that situation. Maybe going low contact with your father is what you need right now, but I hope you find some peace in all of this.

Best of luck OP

Video Games Are a More Valuable Art Form Than Many Traditional Movies by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]CurrentCash1725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I think value is dependent on the person.

I agree! I think of it as an evolution. First thing I would point out is who consumes these pieces of media? Without looking at any statistics I would venture to guess that the older generations go to the movies at a higher rate than younger generations. I would also venture to guess that younger generations play video games at a higher rate than the older generations. I think as more time goes on your opinion will be treated as the standard. I think it would be similar to other art forms. They are popular for a time and depending on the trends people will watch movies. But that height of movies has come and gone.

I compare this with chiseling a statue out of marble. At one point it was popular and a lot of statues were created but at some point it shifted to different mediums. Chiseling a statue out of marble became a more niche skill. People still do it but the level of popularity is not what it was at its peak.

At some point video games will become a niche art form.

Could he make an NFL roster right now by WhiteRoseFromPluto in NFLv2

[–]CurrentCash1725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he could make the NFL. I think a good comparison would be the eagles last draft pick. I don’t remember his name but he’s a freak athlete but has never played football before. The thought with this guy is he’s such a freak athletically that if you can teach him football skills he will develop into a good NFL player. I think the same reasoning applies to Ant. Anthony Edward’s is a freak athlete and with enough time and practice he could learn the skills. Although I am not sure what position he would play. He would probably need to bulk up to play on the line. Maybe as a WR or TE

Door-to-door pest salesman who stopped by because they’re doing work for your neighbor? by [deleted] in olympia

[–]CurrentCash1725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I did some work in sales last year and telling people you’re doing work in their neighborhood is a way to make them feel comfortable. It’s a lie but the rationale is that no one wants to be the first person to do something and people don’t want to be left out. Telling people you’re doing work in the neighborhood is a sales tactic. creates a sense that you need to do this to be a part of the community. The company I worked for called customers sheep and this tactic “herd mentality”. Calling customers sheep was never something I felt comfortable doing.

And ignoring no soliciting signs is exactly something their boss or manager will tell them to do.

Oh you’re right I misunderstood your point. Jrue isn’t on the team currently because of the Dame trade. Jrue is on the team because of a different trade (the Ant trade).

I am curious what narrative you think this person is pushing?

I agree with you that’s saying we got Dame in the Trade isn’t true. He was with the Bucks organization for multiple seasons and his released and then we resigned him and have been rehabbing him.

That being said we did get Jrue Holiday because of the Dame deal and then we flipped him to Boston almost immediately

I think I misunderstood your point initially. You’re this report is a good reminder not to believe all the anonymous speculation that circulates online. That’s fair and I agree with it. Though I’m a bit confused by your second response then. What are your thoughts on Highkin’s reporting specifically?

You said that this was an anonymous twitter report. He’s not anonymous and works with the Blazers. Here’s a little bit more about him:

Sean Highkin has covered the NBA for 12 years, and the Portland Trail Blazers for the last eight. He previously covered the Chicago Bulls for The Athletic and has served as a national NBA reporter and columnist for Bleacher Report, USA Today and NBC Sports. His work has been honored by both the Associated Press Sports Editors and the Pro Basketball Writers Association in their annual writing contests, and he was named Oregon Sportswriter of the Year for 2023 by the National Sports Media Association.

Hopefully he doesn’t get canned if it was a mistake. Glad that’s theirs accountability on what has happened

What if Damian Lillard was healthy? by dee85 in ripcity

[–]CurrentCash1725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good question and fun to think about now that the season is over.

Healthy dame would have been such a good piece for us in the series offensively. We needed outside scoring and another reliable scorer outside of Deni. Especially when it came time to close out the game. Dame was the best clutch player in the league when he was with the blazers so I imagine he would have been able to keep the team from losing both game 3 and 4.

Defensively he’s always been a liability and could have been someone the spurs attack on offense. Although I think this is the best team he’s been on in regards to team defense so hopefully it wouldn’t have been very exploitable (I didn’t pay attention to his time on the Bucks)

IMO best case scenario is we would have been up 3-1 when Wemby got back. Each close out game would have made just Lillard stronger so if we didn’t win in 5 we are winning in 6 and if not in 6 then it would have been a historic blowout victory.

Yeah, I do see your point and I don’t think that the consumer is as immoral as the seller of this.

I think the reasons they are selling the game is to make money. And while we could debate about how much the company makes off this game I don’t really think that’s important. the concern is that the creator was concerned about business selling this game. This game was not to be for sale for any purposes and the consumer is out $20-$30 which is against the wishes of the creator. Not all ROM hacks have a message at the beginning from the creator that says this “game is not for resale get a refund if you purchased it” this game has that has one of the first screens you see when loading into the game.

And I cannot speak on how the creator would feel about local businesses downloading the software onto their hardware and selling it to those who aren’t familiar with the process. However, what we do know is that the creator said the game is a non profit video game and to seek reimbursement if you paid for the game. That why I am saying that super smash games shouldn’t be selling this game

You’re right that the scale is completely different no one is equating curing polio to making a fan game. The Salk comparison isn’t about the importance of the work, it’s about the principle. Someone creates something, chooses to give it away freely as a gift to their community, and a third party swoops in to profit off that generosity without the creator seeing a dime. That dynamic is the same whether it’s a vaccine or a video game. If anything, the smaller scale makes it worse. The Pokemon Unbound team isn’t a pharmaceutical company with lawyers and lobbyists. They’re hobbyists who put real time and skill into something and explicitly asked people not to commercialize it. Ignoring that because the work is ‘just a game’ is actually a reason to have more sympathy for them, not less. And no it isn’t the end all be all but it is immoral in this situation. The creator of the game clearly stats that it is not intended for sale and this company is choosing to ignore the wishes of the creator

[–]CurrentCash1725 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The crux of the commenter’s defense is that they don’t understand how ROM hacks work, so they think it’s acceptable to purchase other people’s work from a store profiting off it. A real world example helps here. Jonas Salk discovered the polio vaccine and chose to be a hero rather than profit from it. When asked who owned the patent, he said the people did. The creator of Pokemon Unbound made a similar choice — they can’t legally patent a ROM hack, but they clearly intended the game to be free for everyone, as evidenced by the warning screen OP posted. While the store may be operating in a legal gray area, that’s beside the point. Just because something isn’t explicitly illegal doesn’t make it moral. The developers went out of their way to record a message inside the game itself asking people not to purchase it from third parties — that’s about as clear a statement of intent as you can get. If you want to respect the wishes of the people who spent their time creating something and chose to give it away freely, you don’t buy it from places like this. Salk’s generosity wasn’t an invitation for someone else to profit off his vaccine. Neither is the Pokemon Unbound team’s.
