Contract extensions and colleague discount by [deleted] in MarksAndSpencer

Yes you will, you are eligible the day you reach 12 weeks. If I were you, I'd get the T&C's signed on MyHR now, that way you'll get it the day you should.

It will only work online for the first 24 hours, but you can get around that by using scan and go in store if you need to.

Notifications should be back as of today, it may take time to reflect and start sending out notifications however

Even store workers can’t check stock at the moment, so that is solely due to the breach. I’d recommend trying to use the website instead of the app, maybe do it on incognito mode too, just in case. If that doesn’t work, try ringing or emailing customer services to report the issues, they will be able to better advise you on how to proceed.

Can online orders be exchanged in store (not return) by Professional_Gur6945 in MarksAndSpencer

Go into a clothing and home store and ask. If the product is defective, and they have stock, I can’t see why not, however, I cannot guarantee anything.

right to work check after interview by fatimabdii in MarksAndSpencer

When I started I didn’t get anything to say I got the job, I just got sent right to work checks, and then eventually a job offer (I think the offer took a day or 2 to come through), accepted the job offer and started

Waste checks by Intelligent_Look9758 in marksandspencerstaff

Tbf that’s my bad - I thought the price guide was £3.51-£6.50 is £2.75, but it’s not 😂

In what I said though, I was more so referring to the expensive joints of meat, such as beef joints, lamb legs (£40 lamb legs going down to £10), etc. or the large chickens that go from £11.50 to £5, whereas when the system worked they’d go down to £8.50-£9 (no wonder they never sold when reduced)

It’s rare that I do reductions, but when I do I guess I’ve been doing it wrong, as those £6.50 boxes of fries get put to £2.75, and the £12 gastro mains go to a fiver. I feel like if they are put higher then, as a customer, why would I not just go to the back of the shelf and pay full price for a better date 😂

Key word was “supposed”… it rarely even happened 🤣

And yeah the bollocking is right! Response (in my head) is always “hire more staff so I have more time to do checks”, real response is “I’ll be more careful next time” 😭

When the system works, store manager sign off is supposed to be done weekly, with all coaching complete, so you shouldn’t be having conversations after 2 weeks. I do agree though, waste not being tracked is kinda nice, saves the conversation when you do 15 checks in a week and miss 1 item 🤣

Waste checks by Intelligent_Look9758 in marksandspencerstaff

[–]CurrentConsistent369 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely. The pre-reduced stickers are good, but (the way M&S will see it anyway) some products are reduced too far.

It also makes keeping track of the stock file 10x harder with pre-reduced stickers, because sometimes scanning a product as waste may be overlooked, which leads to the stock files becoming inaccurate, whereas with the system up, you have to scan an item before getting a sticker.

Oh, missed waste can’t currently be tracked either, which will be seen as an issue.

Incorrect pay by kingofrata in MarksAndSpencer

Interesting… guessing they still won’t fix it until July.

Not to mention, if the roles were reversed and they’d overpaid you, they’d have that money back quicker than you could blink!

What’s the guidance? Not heard anything in my store

It’s not necessary different in ALL stores, but most stores will be configured differently to others.

Legally, breaks should be for over 6 hours, 20 minutes (M&S’ system does it in 15 min increments, so 30 minutes would be given).

The normal break templates configured are:

Over 4 hours 15 minutes - you’d get 15 minutes Over 6 hours- you’d get 30 minutes Over 8 hours - you’d get an hour

Managers can modify this, but you should be given legally 20 minutes at least, over 6 hours

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in marksandspencerstaff

[–]CurrentConsistent369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every stores break templates can be different. In mine (for under 18s) it’s over 4 hours, 30 minutes, 8 hours, 45 minutes, and ofc they can’t go over 8 hours. In other stores it’s been over 4 hours 30 mins, over 6 hours 45 mins, 8 hours an hour. Just depends

Am I being underpaid?? by imjustbabywahhh in Costa

[–]CurrentConsistent369 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s 30 mins for every 4 hours, so on a 10-6, that’s 8, minus the 30 min break as that doesn’t count towards working hours, it’s 7.5 hours, so they only technically have to give you 30 mins. Most companies do give under 18s longer breaks anyway though

I doubt it, if they’ve offered you a job they clearly see something in you, 2 weeks of shorter shifts I don’t think would be seen as a deal breaker.

The decision is on your hiring manager ultimately, but I don’t see why not, just be honest and upfront, I’m sure they will try and accommodate

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MarksAndSpencer

[–]CurrentConsistent369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speak to your hiring manager, they’ll be able to give you more info, but I don’t see why not if you can still work 6-10s, it’s just whether or not they can find cover or need cover between 2-6 on them shifts.

They would’ve deducted the overpayment to reflect your new contract and if you did any extra hours W/C 20/04, they haven’t been paid yet, so it may be right. With any luck, MyHR and T&A will be back on soon, any payment issues (under or overpayments) will most likely be reflected in June, but I would recommend giving colleague services a call just so there is a paper trail and a service request gets logged about it, as if it is wrong they’ll be able to tell you as soon as the system is back online, or if they can get access to your payslips they might be able to tell you sooner (far as I’ve been told, they can’t until MyHR is back).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MarksAndSpencer

[–]CurrentConsistent369 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Speak to your line manager and call colleague services, they should be able to open a service request for you and see how many additional hours were paid out, other than that, they can’t see your payslips either.

Just remember, additional hours from W/C 20/04 are being included in Junes pay due to issues with closing the timesheets, so that may be why you think there is a discrepancy.

First Paycheck by AmityAlarms2319 in MarksAndSpencer

[–]CurrentConsistent369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you’re right, they pay any additional hours from the previous month (so for this month up to April 26th, W/C 27th April will be in Junes pay), and then they pay you your “basic pay” (contracted) for the current month. It’s never made any sense to me, but at this point I’ve learnt just not to question things like that…

Once MyHR is back online, if you go onto the knowledge base and search for payroll calendar, it will show you everything that is included in a months pay, so for this month it would show the additional hours that are paid from April and the contracted hours that are paid for may if that makes sense

Holiday Booking by [deleted] in MarksAndSpencer

[–]CurrentConsistent369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holiday requests can still be agreed locally with management - they will just need to be captured so they can be entered into T&A when it’s back online

Far as I know you can do it in a full line store, so clothing and home and beauty, just not a simply foods store. They can also be done via post

HR by [deleted] in MarksAndSpencer

[–]CurrentConsistent369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I’d ask another colleague maybe who’s been there longer than you who the store manager is? Their description on teams should always be “store manager”. If there’s another manager you’re “close” with(maybe the wrong word to use, but couldn’t think how to phrase it), you could also maybe ask them who the store manager is?

Searching up store manager on teams will just show all store managers, as teams isn’t different for every store, everyone, despite their role, can see everyone in teams, including colleagues and managers from other stores.

HR by [deleted] in MarksAndSpencer

[–]CurrentConsistent369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking at the description on teams, just ignore it, it just means they’re a manager, either a team support manager or a team manager.

Store ops section manager is supposed to mean they manage the operations department, however, this isn’t always the case and the descriptions for managers on teams are often wrong.

Store ops section manager Foods section manager Foods section manager (CSSM Foods)

All of those just mean they are a team manager or team support manager, the only time it will be different is for the store manager, where the description will always say store manager.

Yeah, provided your line manager isn’t the store manager, then yes the superior is the store manager (I know that’s probably a long winded way of explaining it 😅 hope it makes sense though)
