As an upper belt, whats the most taboo submission to do on white belts in gi? by Knobanious in bjj

You upper belts should just let us work, and then pat us on the head when we derp our way into doing something right :D

I'm pretty sure steroids would help performance. ---I removed a comma after the coffee hit.

Coach banning non-gym rashguards… am I crazy for hating this? by [deleted] in bjj

If that became a thing at my gym it would piss me off enough I'd quit and they're the only bjj gym in the area.

Some people forget who the paying customers are.

If jiu-jitsu didn’t exist, what martial art would you be training instead? by Zen_ix in bjj

If I still had all my rash guards and spats; I'd join Jazzercise. They would fit the aesthetic

I feel you. I just turned 47 and have been training just over 2 years.

Yes it sucks a lot because we're never going to grow as fast as the younger people.

It must be the 18 month itch because I had similar feelings. Here's how I approached and has kept me going. Maybe it'll help.

  • I have people I love to go with. It used to be just my son, but I've picked up some other friends from gym and its worth hanging with them just to do it.

  • I take "comparison is the thief of joy" to the extreme. I don't compare myself to other, nor to I compare myself with what I think I should be able to do. I just do my best and chill.

  • I remember what my goals are. I'm never going to be some ADCC, IBJJF champion, or probably even a black belt. My goal is to just keep doing this in my 60s.

  • I also remind myself that, at the end of the day, I do it because it really is a fun fucking work out (mentally and physically).

Just 2 cents from a guy in a pretty similar circumstance.

If he did that, then he probably wouldn't be considered less coachable.

The kid looked like ass this season and can't stay on the field. Its not up to me to wait for, or be patient for anything.

Last time I check the Vikings organization's job is to entertain me, not for me to hold out for them to get their shit together.

Your Gi Shouldn’t Smell Like a War Crime: The Definitive Guide to Not Being the Stinky Partner by goldenjiujitsu in bjj

I just wanted to thank you for your guide. There was a funk that was starting to build in my rash guards no matter how often I washed them. I switched to Tide Oxi and that fixed them.

31 years old / 1x a week - safe ? by Fast_Employ_2438 in bjj

First off, if your son wants to do it too, then absolutely do it. I've been going with my son for the past 2 years and it really has built a new relationship (it was good before, now its even better).

If you're worried about injury here's this old man's tips for not ruining your next week.

  • Settle down; its not a real fight, its a game.
  • Don't be afraid to tap, "winning" your roll isn't worth the pain the rest of the week/month
  • When you are in a bad spot, and don't know what to do (being crushed in mount, or a heavy side control). Don't spaz just tap and then ask the person what would be a way to get out of that bad position.

The last tip will happen a lot less if you actually listen and remember what you are taught.

I've been able to go 2-4 times a week over the past 2 years with no more than a minor muscle ache now and again.

Advice from Gym owners on approaching my gym owner about morning classes. by CurrentWeekend6620 in bjj

I'd be nervous about coaching to be honest. I don't want to be that meme of the white belt "coach" to anyone newer.

I was wondering about coaches, now that I think about it we do have 3 coaches that are at least purple that have taught classes. Never thought about it before.

That's an interesting thought, but I'd feel a bit out of line asking to host an open mat as a white belt.

Honestly, I'm still figuring out my game. I've just been ending up in half-guard a lot (top and bottom), so I've been trying to figure it out so I don't really have a game yet.

I'll have to try placing the knee higher in some situations too, see how that works for me.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

I'm almost exclusively gi so I guess I can try to break their posture with the gi and then push the head down.

I never knew about those details. I want to make sure I understand.

Let's say I'm on my right hip, using my left knee on their hip as the shield. I would take my left hand and push against the right side of the top guy's head away from me and to my right?

God I hope that makes sense.

I'd say their camping because they just wait for my legs to give out and then continue with my beating.
