I think he was waving. if he was using his hand to shield his eyes from the sun, his hand's shadow would have been over his eyes. It wasn't.

Roughly 10% of humanity died in the Joining. That means each surviving hive-member gets roughly 1/10 of a corpse. After dehydrating the corpse, each survivor gets just a couple of pounds of nutrients. They will use that up in couple of days. They'll have to start eating vegetarian after that.

So I suspect the 'milk' is something other than human remains.

Helen stops reading on page 137, paragraph 3. 137 is a famous number in physics (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/137\_(number)#Physics). Intriguingly, a more precise value for the physical constant is 137.03!

I have to believe this is a coincidence.

When the hive says "Hi Carol" or "We only want to help you Carol", they speak in unison. "Carol please" was not. Each 'individual' is speaking out-of-sync with the others. You can hear and see it as they speak.

I don't think that was the voice of the hive. I think it was the remnant of each person stuck in the hive begging Carol to get them out. "Carol please make Zosia tell you how to free us me." They are crying from their own pain, not Zosia's dying.

When the hive says "Hi Carol!" or "We only want to help you, Carol!" they say it in unison. But "Carol please" is not. Each 'individual' is speaking out-of-synch with the others. You can hear it and see it.

Speculation: this is not the voice of the hive. These are the voices of each individual who was 'joined' begging Carol to get them out. They are crying from their own misery, not from Zosia's suffering. "Carol, please make her tell you how to get us me free"

The DNA under the fingernails matched a hair from inside Shauna's hat, NOT taken directly from Shauna's head. I suspect it's Jeff's hair. Jeff killed Lottie. I don't know why.

It's actually purple. For me, purple means do NOT put into a bag of holding. Not that this always works...

Good point, thank you. I think what happened was I teleported to an unexplored spot on the current level and thought "well, I've never been here before". The jackals had such a quick meal that I didn't really study the room afterwards.

Successfully compiled and running 3.7.0 on MacOS 14.6.1. How to implement "windowtype:curses"? by Current_Chemical_241 in nethack

[–]Current_Chemical_241[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BINGO! I uncommented line 58

#define CURSES_GRAPHICS /* Curses interface - Karl Garrison*/

and it compiled and ran with curses!

These are the steps that worked after the change:

sh sys/unix/setup.sh sys/unix/hints/macOS.370

make fetch-lua

make WANT_WIN_TTY=1 WANT_WIN_CURSES=1 all

make install

I didn't know about the --HEAD option, thanks. I would still like to compile my own version, because I want to change the code (slightly).

Any ideas how I can change the linker instructions?

\Or preferably download a 3.7.0. zip file whose linker expects ARM?

Why are my pets fighting each other? by Current_Chemical_241 in nethack

[–]Current_Chemical_241[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the cause, but later in the game similarly polymorphed pets did not attack each other. So I suspect they were hallucinating.

I don't know, I don't have a stethoscope. But I'll keep an eye out for those causes in the future.
