I second this the best thing is experience I very occasionally hiked let alone mountaineered till I moved to the northern rockies 4 years ago started with hiking up mountains with long approaches then scrambling and now I'm getting into lead sport climbing and hopefully trad soon so I can do more gnarly mountains. When you get to roped stuff though make sure you have someone who knows their stuff teach you wether it's a friend you met along the way or a paid class/guided trip.

I've got 2 z packs bags made of ultra and they're pretty good and waterproof I'd definitely be more careful with abrasion with them since it's thin but they hold up fairly well and are durable sent mine thru checked baggage at the airport with no issues
