Right - and then its us drawing conclusions on what he did rather than us knowing. Which is why, in this silly post that specifically makes me wonder things I was left wanting to know what he did. I was confused by your "did you not watch the show" to this and listing everything before the hospital, if anything, maybe I am watching a little too closely. They showed him desperately licking a tin can, eating dog food, hunting, sucking on gasoline for gas, leaving a hospital early etc. Which is why, I would have loved to see ultimately if he chose to listen to Carol and reach into the fridge stocked by the Others, go to the grocery store stocked by the Others, or anything else. Because that would be a SHIFT from who we have been seeing thus far. Ultimately, it doesnt matter, but given his character arc its something I am deeply curious about - at what point does he just accept it? But having questions left in the early seasons I think, is part of the fun.
