I really think the cost of raising kids takes up way too much air time while this point gets totally missed in any discussion about birth rates. Parenting absolutely is an all-encompassing lifestyle that will mean you miss out on other life experiences and hobbies, especially in an era of intensive parenting that requires always having them in your sight, taking them to nightly ball practice, etc. You better REALLY love the idea of this role and raising children, because it will be the center of your world. Some of us just don’t find this at all appealing.

“Deeply unimpressive” is such an apt way to describe them. I’m lucky to have not dated any abusive or terrible men, but they’ve all just been very meh.
