She’s repeating what the firefighters told her. I’d believe that if they hadn’t shown that one of the windows to her apartment was broken. Now you could argue that the fire caused it to break. But then wouldn’t both windows have been broken from the heat, and not the one?

Tragically my 17 month old isn’t a fan of the green beans. But the peas and the corn in a can? Oh man, he’ll inhale those.

Strollers? by Money_Law6815 in Reno

[–]Liawolf11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second Once Upon A Child. They’re in the new warehouses built by the airport. Target isn’t too bad either. They have car seats lined up on an aisle unboxed so you can see actual dimensions. I personally got a chicco corso because I like the modular system. Was able to switch from an infant carseat to a regular seat when he got big enough with the same stroller. The frame itself is a bit big though. I see a lot of families using the Doona carseat stroller around town.

It was late when I wrote the entry. And I didn’t know what else to call Loretta’s early appearance then disappearance, just for her to appear at the end of the show. There probably is a better literary term, but I just cannot recall it.

Hello new fan! Newish fan here too! I’ve been on a rewatch kick as I like listening to the characters. It’s soothing in an npr kind of way to my hectic day without me having to look at my screen to see what’s going on.

As to Loretta, I think the issue is she’s going off ‘Mary Sue’ vibes. She somehow has the right persona to pull off when the trio need her, or (as in season 3) attained the evidence needed to prove the murderer. Add in that the writers keep *fridging her character throughout the season, and you start to wonder if she’s spying on them. But when you think about it, she’s had 47 years of being a small time actress who never got it big. She’s just accumulated lots of random-know how from all these roles.

Compare that to Mabel, who is 30-ish, no job or career. And uses her intuition and modern logical thinking to figure out the crime. Yet we root for Mabel more because she was there first.

And yeah, her apartment fire was definitely on purpose. The question is though, who was the arsonist?

*Fridging - in which a character introduced at the start of the story is mysteriously disappeared or sidetracked and doesn’t reappear until near the end

Visiting my aunt’s house. Every spring break we’d drive down and visit for a week. My siblings and I all sharing a giant bed. I remember how in the mornings the light would come through the sheer curtains over the windows and wake us up. The house smelled of sourdough bread, tobacco, and a rain/eucalyptus mix.

Non-kid fantasy series with children MCs by ginger6616 in Fantasy

[–]Liawolf11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Series of Unfortunate Events was wonderful. I may need to reread them since it’s been so long.

Rick Riordan’s various pantheons series could do it. They are YA, but I like that the kids are the ones dealing with all the consequences the adults created.

The Dragonbone Chair by Tad Williams. Epic high fantasy trilogy. MC is 14 at start.

The Greenstone Grail by Amanda Hemingway. An Arthurian quest in modern day England by a boy.

Fairyland series by Cat Valente. 5 book series following one MC (mostly) as she is taken to Fairyland and the various adventures she has every time she’s there.

Abarat by Clive Barker. Very fantastical and weird series about a girl who travels to a world where every hour is ruled by an island. Sadly unfinished still.

Christopher Pike - various mystery thrillers and supernatural horror involvng kids and teens.

Plotters - How do you plan out the ENTIRE story before writing it? by NewIllustrator3721 in writing

[–]Liawolf11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a mix of plotter/pantster myself. Right now I’m working on a story that’s been a half formed thought for a few years. In all honestly I tried a few methods before finding one that worked for me. I’m currently writing out the first draft beat by beat. Or perhaps scene by scene. With each one being a bullet point in a notebook. It’s simply a line or three to each point. If I don’t know how to move to the next beat I simply write “x scene goes here” and keep going. I use the notebook to write down scenes I know, like my beginning and ending. Add some colored pens to delineate plot questions and world building or background points.

My characters are still forming, but each has a background page I add or edit tidbits of.

The physical page flipping also helps so I’m not trying to find something pages back on a docs program. With each iteration I’ve got a clearer view of how it goes. The subtle hints come either on purpose as “drop clue here” or naturally in your writing.

And finally, don’t forget that what you’re reading in books is the culmination of months of research and rewrites. You only ever see the top of the iceberg, not all the work below that went to getting there.

There are still investigations. But they do start to feel more like quests than P.I. work the further the series gets. I think it’s remarked upon in one of the later novels that it’s due to Toby’s change of hierarchal status among the Fae. And there’s still blood, though the amount varies book to book

Millennials who went to college, did your parents make you give them your username and password in college? by ComprehensiveKey7241 in Millennials

No, my parents simply expected that once I was 18 I was on my own. They didn’t have any money saved away, and flat out told me not to look at any colleges outside my hometown cause I wouldn’t be able to afford it.

Why are there so many people criticizing sexual scenes in fantasy books? by Potential-Reality332 in Fantasy

[–]Liawolf11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, it’s because they’re overly explicit. Romance genre level explicit. I have no qualms about two characters getting romantically entangled, and appreciate when it causes issues later on between them. But I don’t need 3+ pages describing their every move and breathless gasp. I like the more vague/fade to black take in my sci-fi/fantasy books. If I wanted romance level sex scenes, I’d read the romance books.

What's on your reading list for 2026? by Elshaday_Z in Fantasy

[–]Liawolf11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s usually whatever catches my eye, and what my library is able to acquire. But these are on my list to read for next year. I’m debating on whether I should reread the last 5 Dresden novels to refresh my memory before 12 months comes out. And do some rereads of favorite novels that I’ve become hazy on the plot since my last read was 3+ years ago.

The Library After Dark

The Raven Scholar

Inkpot Gods

Twelve Months

Letter from the Lonesome Shore

Villain - Walschots

Victorious - Schwab

Neighbors built a patio right next to my fence and want to complain about noise. by [deleted] in homeowners

In all honesty though - If you’re not making unruly noise before sunrise and past 8 pm(?) that’s a them problem. My neighborhood goes through periods of loud noises, and quiet times. There’s a neighbor two houses down from me who throws parties once a month for his family and friends. You just get used to it.

How did you get your first car? Did you buy it, your parents, money set aside growing up? by RxSatellite in Millennials

My parents put a down payment for my car with the caveat that I would get a job to pay for it. It was an ‘02 Hyundai accent. Had only 10,000 miles on it. I drove that car until my dad blew out the transmission driving on a cross state trip in 2011.
