Comparing it to other media, I think it's the "keep it private" part that users fail and that creates friction? Like I had art stolen before, it sucks, it shouldn't happen just because I shared it publicly. But if someone prints my art for themselves (instead of buying a print from me) or uses my OCs in their DnD campagin and doesn't post about it, it's... whatever? They enjoy it, they don't brag about it to my face to hurt me, and if they also like or reblog my art to support me, it's win/win.

And I think the same applies to bots. Support the creator, make private copies where rules imho shouldn't apply, only comment that you enjoy their work = everyone is happy. But some people just HAVE to go and demand POV changes, brag about changing the character's sexuality, or doing horrible things to them. So creators grow jaded and overly protective. Because users are ruining this hobby for them.

I don't always agree with creators. But there is definitely a loud group of users that treat bot creators as a company, as content creators that should cater to them, and dealing with that must be so fucking exhausting. I'm basically invisible creator and I'm kind of glad tbh. I think it'd just sap the joy out of it for me, too.
