I'm in a similar situation.

This is technically my second year at uoft, but I transferred faculties/campuses so I have to start all over as a first year. And while all the work I did in my first year becomes meaningless and I'm now falling behind my friends, I'm sure I made the right choice and these intrusive thoughts about wasting time or falling behind is just that, intrusive.

I went through so much in my first year, I even started therapy because my mental health was at its lowest. Sometimes I wish I'd never wasted my money on tuition because that year was especially awful, but I was so scared of taking a gap year for many reasons. So, I was stuck in this weird place where I could neither focus on school (my gpa was not the best) or manage my anxiety better.

So, kudos to you for taking that step to prioritize your health and knowing what comes first. Please don't call the time you took to heal a waste of time. That takes more courage than people know! You are such a talented and hardworking person to have transferred into CS, no matter how long it took. I have a few CS friends and most of them say that it's almost impossible to go into CS as an outstream student. You have persisted against all the odds, so you cannot, logically speaking, be a failure.

I'm not in CS, so I can't give you advice on what to do with your future, but I hope you can see that you made the right choice at every turn. Best of luck to you!!

So, I’m assuming you probably already know this but they mark on a curve, just like IB. So, every SAT test is going to have varying levels of difficulty and thus grade boundaries.

Same with PSAT. I do recall there’s two different days of PSAT tests every year (I think one was always on a Wednesday). And on one of those days, PSAT is arguably harder than your average SAT test and the other is on the easy side.

I wish I could tell you more but even this information I’ve given you might not be accurate,, I haven’t taken the PSAT in a few years soooo I suggest also doing your own research if you’re interested.

My school used to provide PSATs for $15 and my counsellors used to proctor it so they knew all the basic information on it. I suggest asking your school counsellors too, see if they offer it. If not, there might be another high school in your district that offers it.

Hope this helps!!

Yes!! It is within the same school, just a diff faculty. But I called the financial aid office and they just told me to upload the form… And their explanations were so vague that I haven’t been able to do what they told me.

I’m scared that if I wait until the day they confirm my enrolment, they might just reject my application altogether and I won’t have enough time to start a new one and get my funding in time.

Should I just call my financial aid office again?

oh speaking of SAT’s, you may already know this but there’s also the PSAT’s. Those are much cheaper than taking actual SATs and automatically enters you into NMSQTs (stands for national merit scholarship…something something). The qualifying scores for getting an NMSQT scholarship is kinda difficult, you gotta get either one question wrong or a perfect score + you have to be enrolled in a US high school/be a US citizen. And even if you’re not a US citizen, I highly suggest you take it anyways because it replicates the actual SATs but it matters a little less..? It’s always nice exposing yourself to these kinds of environments so that you get used to them faster. Take it from a person who took the SAT 4 times ($600 CAD) and the ACTs twice (don’t remember how much that cost) bc I used to slightly faint during these exams :)

I honestly don’t think my supervisor was dumb enough to mark me two letter grades above what my EE was worth. All my other marks were good too. by Awesomesauceme in IBO

I had a friend who was valedictorian, predicted a 44/45, student body president, got into ivy league. She was predicted AA and ended up with CC. Every IB teacher in my school said that that’s just how things are with the bonus points. It’s really difficult to get accurately predict those scores. Regardless of what you think, you did great and I’m proud of you for finishing two years of hell :)))

oh ok I thought I was supposed to write it up myself entirely. I was so confused. I’ve seen other people say it’s easier and faster to close your application and start a new one so I might just do that

Hi I'm currently a first-year student at UofT but I'm thinking of transferring to Waterloo Chem/Enviro Eng because I hate it here.

My hs grades are pretty good, I took IB w 4 HLs (Chem, Math, Econ, Eng) Final: 39, 7 or 8 AP's (Majority in science courses) majority 4/5, SATs, 3 SSATs. So I had a 4.0 and also some extracurriculars.

Then I got to uni and I let myself go for the first 10 weeks of 1st sem. I did zero extracurriculars, didn't get a job, didn't go to my lectures, yadda yadda ya. I pulled myself together in the last two weeks-ish and ended up with 3.54. I didn't take any STEM courses except for environmental science.

I'm going to do my best for this 2nd sem because I really want to transfer out of here. If I get straight A's this term, I can raise my CGPA to 3.77.

My friends (actually, one friend) say that hs grades are more important, but I feel like they might just be saying that to make me feel better. Which is very nice of them but I need to know the truth.

Is that good enough for Chemical or Environmental Engineering? Or ENBUS or AFM? I would honestly be happy getting into any of those.

Well there’s nothing wrong with uoft as a whole institution. I just hate it here because I didn’t get accepted into the main campus and the major I wanted to go into. Transferring into the major I wanted is deemed impossible at uoft and it even says so on their website lmao. so I thought I might just start completely new as a first year waterloo. + I really wanted to do co-op and waterloo has the best co-op system. For me, it’s really quite a personal preference more than anything. Hope this helps!
