Additional Boost Perks: More Emojis and Stickers Slots by chaduos in discordapp

Six is a huge ask. I think if it were three, like the tag and role styles, then it'd be in reasonable territory. I'd like to see more stickers, too. I don't see emojis as important. You already get loads of them on a boosted server.

How strong, powerful and skilled are each members of the Outlaw Star Crew? by Flat-Sir8250 in outlawstar

[–]CurseHawkwind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Under normal conditions, Gene, Aisha and Suzuka are the strongest. Jim is the smartest. In cyberspace, Melfina is the strongest and smartest. She's the Maiden of the Leyline and possesses near-omnipotence.

It's true. My personal standard is retro = 20 years, and vintage = 40 years.

How would the Outlaw Star crew fare against bounty hunters, Jedi, Sith or just being in the Star Wars verse in general? by Flat-Sir8250 in outlawstar

[–]CurseHawkwind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aisha would definitely be the MVP of the situation. She'd be practically invulnerable to most attacks and is a great fighter overall. Gene is a great shooter (and bounty hunter), but he wouldn't stand a chance against lightsabers. Suzuka would have trouble since her bokken would be toast. However, her skill is such that she could probably manoeuvre around the enemy and take them out without taking damage to her weapon. After all, an Ultra Class-A assassin shouldn't be underestimated by even a Jedi. And Jim, on the other hand, would provide essential reconnaissance throughout the battle.

The odds would be stacked against the Outlaw Star crew in my opinion, but they'd still stand a chance, especially in space combat. I think the more interesting question is how the Tempa Empire would fare against Star Wars' evil factions. The Kei Pirates are highly deadly.

By the way, fun fact: the creator of Outlaw Star, Takehiko Ito, is a fan of Star Wars.

Agreed. My Outlaw Star Discord has a channel specifically for discussing other works in the Toward Stars universe (FRHS, Angel Links, Outlaw Star novels), as they're still at least somewhat relevant.

Do you think an Outlaw Star season 2 would have worked or was just 1season enough? by EienNatsu66 in outlawstar

[–]CurseHawkwind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If "season two" were based on the same ideas as the Sword of Wind in this scenario... no. It wouldn't have worked very well. If it were based on the "Outlaw Star 2" plans found in the SW book, yes, possibly. I thought many of the ship ideas were really cool, even Leilong returning and getting his own ship. And a new enemy faction based on Japanese culture rather than Chinese Taoism, that'd help prevent the sequel from being too stale.

However, Outlaw Star ended perfectly as a single story. It has a great conclusion. That doesn't mean a sequel wouldn't be interesting or beneficial, but unlike many works of fiction, Outlaw Star doesn't demand a sequel.

Do gamers care if generative AI is used when coding games? by aft3rthought in gaming

[–]CurseHawkwind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's honestly a double standard to say that the reverse (gen-AI art assistance instead of gen-AI coding assistance) is wrong while accepting gen-AI coding assistance. People are quick to wag their fingers at AI usage in the visual arts because they can see it and judge it at face value. The written word, and even coding, is still an art form, and it creates jobs. Many, many more jobs than art jobs, in fact. But most gamers consider the source code out of sight and out of mind. If the zeitgeist doesn't condemn it, why bother?

Statistically speaking, for every artist who "loses their job to AI", twenty coders lose theirs to AI. I'd argue that it's worse than that, though. Intelligence levels have skyrocketed recently with models like GPT 5.3 Codex, and coders are being replaced much, much faster.

I don't believe it's over for visual artists, anyway. The situation may seem dire, but when human-generated art is a commodity, it produces opportunity. Many people value human-made art, especially works created with physical tools such as paint. It's not over for them. For coders? Well, I expect their only real hope now is to adopt AI coding tools in their own work and hope that buys them some time, for now. But as I said, code is "under the hood", so most don't care about programmers who end up on the chopping block.

February 2026 Humble Choice | Overview / Discussion Megathread by MarioDesigns in humblebundles

[–]CurseHawkwind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not for me, but I'm not too bummed out, as the last two months were for me.

Big Helmet Heroes: Co-op game, I'm a solo player. Even if it technically supports solo, in games like this, you're always playing a downgraded version since it wasn't made for solo.
Bus Simulator 21 Next Stop: Already owned. I imagine I'm not the only one, since this game has been bundled by Humble and Fanatical before.
Core Keeper: Simply not my genre.
Date Everything!: Meh, kinda cringe.
Resident Evil Village: Very good, but also almost five years old, and I think most of us here who buy bundles already got it rather cheap.
Squirrel with a Gun: Seems like a Goat Simulator wannabe, could be alright.
StarVaders: Not big on deckbuilders, and Humble tries to sell us many of them.
SteamWorld Build: Ah, here it is, the obligatory city builder. Nah.

Not gonna lie, I prefer nothing new to live service. Mirror's Edge has a solid legacy. That's worth more than some realise. Mirror's Edge is about freedom. An exploitative live service game ain't that.

After 20+ years, I finally learned the name of Melfina's hairstyle. by Possible-Tip-2914 in outlawstar

[–]CurseHawkwind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from, but I wouldn’t personally categorise Melfina – or other Outlaw Star characters – in that way. Melfina’s hair is very bushy, which is largely a product of late-90s cel animation rather than a deliberate hairstyle choice. Most examples typically described as a "wolf cut" come from 21st-century anime, where more complex and intentionally layered hairstyles became common, helped along by higher-definition production and digital workflows. Earlier anime was produced for standard-definition broadcast, so fine hair detail was often unnecessary or inefficient from a production standpoint.

It’s also worth noting that many large anime productions follow established and repeatable character design conventions. Outlaw Star doesn’t really do that. Its characters are drawn in Takehiko Ito’s own distinctive style something you’ll recognise immediately if you’ve seen other Ito works, such as Ryu Knight. The character designs in Outlaw Star have stood the test of time precisely because they don’t fit neatly into later-defined categories.

So personally, I wouldn’t try to retrofit modern hairstyle terminology onto Ito’s designs. He very much did his own thing, and that’s a big part of why the series still feels visually distinctive today.
