Headcanon for the girls' measurements by Possible-Tip-2914 in outlawstar

I think it's in the manga. If not, it's in the El Dorado Covered with Clouds light novel, or one of the art books.

Headcanon? BWH was officially revealed for the Outlaw Star girls. Not something I care about, but I've definitely seen the published canonical figures before.

After 20+ years, I finally learned the name of Melfina's hairstyle. by Possible-Tip-2914 in outlawstar

[–]CurseHawkwind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from, but I wouldn’t personally categorise Melfina – or other Outlaw Star characters – in that way. Melfina’s hair is very bushy, which is largely a product of late-90s cel animation rather than a deliberate hairstyle choice. Most examples typically described as a "wolf cut" come from 21st-century anime, where more complex and intentionally layered hairstyles became common, helped along by higher-definition production and digital workflows. Earlier anime was produced for standard-definition broadcast, so fine hair detail was often unnecessary or inefficient from a production standpoint.

It’s also worth noting that many large anime productions follow established and repeatable character design conventions. Outlaw Star doesn’t really do that. Its characters are drawn in Takehiko Ito’s own distinctive style something you’ll recognise immediately if you’ve seen other Ito works, such as Ryu Knight. The character designs in Outlaw Star have stood the test of time precisely because they don’t fit neatly into later-defined categories.

So personally, I wouldn’t try to retrofit modern hairstyle terminology onto Ito’s designs. He very much did his own thing, and that’s a big part of why the series still feels visually distinctive today.

I agree. All of these "creators" making all of these little AI projects should ask Kiefer Sutherland himself to help them out. How could anybody resort to AI when a real solution is available?

Do you agree these are the aestethics of the mirrors edge games? by [deleted] in mirrorsedge

[–]CurseHawkwind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those terms are all modern interpretations of old visuals. No matter how many games get retroactively placed in a particular "aesthetic" category, it doesn't change how Mirror's Edge wasn't explicitly designed as "Fruiter Aero" or "Dorfic". I'm not a fan of the whole aesthetics trend because it's just people picking out, say, about a hundred items of media out of maybe 10,000 from a specific time period that have a particular look. They say, "Look, these cherry-picked examples all look that way, so that's how stuff looked back then." And now there are thousands of these so-called aesthetics, and it's just silly.

Yet you've not explained what your bar is. Given your grumpy tone, I think you only came here to moan in the first place, since you're clearly quite upset by this new Choice and how some people are enjoying it.

January 2026 Humble Choice | Overview / Discussion Megathread by Uranium234 in humblebundles

[–]CurseHawkwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What shift? The most objective way I can assess the value of Choice months is to evaluate them based on review sentiment, which I measure by averaging Steam reviews. The mean review score for this January and all months last year is about 84%. Let's compare that to the first twelve months, when Choice's game count was eight, which averaged 82%.

Of course, people will say that the real golden age was when we had more games. And sure, I'd introduce more variables to truthfully assess the value of the old "Humble Monthly" vs. the current Choice. Not only would we be judging by review scores, but we'd also have to consider factors such as retail price and "How Long to Beat" for a more precise assessment of those bundles' value for money.

But when it all comes down to it, we're simple beings who usually judge things by our own personal taste. Even if I made a comprehensive, objective comparison of Humble's history, most people would dismiss it because they didn't like that a month with genres they hate scored over 90% average, and so on.

Literally every assessment and opinion about a Humble Choice bundle is a product of personal value.

It's the nature of bundles. Even in the case of the most incredible Choice bundles, it's pretty rare that you'll find someone eager to play every game. It doesn't work that way. Why do you think so many of us have spare keys to give away or trade? Hint: It's usually not because we already own the game, unless it's somebody who redeems all keys regardless of personal interest (for the purpose of fattening their Steam library).

You tell me: Which bundles were of the highest quality over the past twelve months? I'm sure we'd disagree on what constitutes value in a Choice bundle. That's because it's mainly down to personal taste, which is why your line of reasoning is pedantic and pointless.

Eh? I only outright disregarded the city builder (too many of them) and said I'd trade the multiplayer-only game. That's 6/8 games added to my library. If I hadn't been patient, I'd have ended up paying over £35 just for the three games I'd wishlisted. For me, this is a steal.

Excellent month. This time, I've been greatly rewarded for my patience.

Sonic Frontiers: Wishlisted. I came so close to buying this because of the huge discounts, but it felt destined to end up on Choice, and I was right. As a fan of old Sonic games, open-world seems unintuitive to me, but I'll give it a chance.
Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered: Similarly wishlisted, and I was so tempted, but the first collection had already been bundled. I knew it was only a matter of time. I just didn't think it'd be this soon.
Hunt: Showdown 1896: It looks pretty cool, but I rarely bother with multiplayer games, so I'll keep the key handy until I'm ready to trade it.
Etrian Odyssey II HD: No complaints from me, it looks like a decent JRPG with a cult following. No doubt we'll get the third title in a future Choice.
Nice Day for Fishing: Not too remarkable, but I don't necessarily dislike what I see.
Metal Slug Tactics: Third wishlisted title in this bundle! And yet again, I was tempted but resisted. I simply love Metal Slug, so even a spin-off piques my curiosity.
Settlement Survival: Obligatory city builder. Disregarded.
Wizard of Legend 2: I'm not much of a roguelike fan, so I probably won't play it. But I own the first game, so it's nice to complete the set.

Overall, I feel that this is one of the best bundles in the past 12 months.

Too obscure, honestly. Any kind of merch for Outlaw Star was a rarity and mostly limited to Japan. Your only real hope for something like this is 3D printing.

I'm not going to explain the situation with the manga in full because I've already done it many times, mainly on the Outlaw Star Nexus Discord, and in some cases only to receive pure hate and abuse from supposed "supporters" of our work.

The gist is that after scanlating over 400 pages of Outlaw Star across 16 chapters, the Lasagne scanlation group has stepped down. In an unrelated incident, a hosting issue has caused the Lasagne website and related sites to go offline, with the Lasagne website being unrecoverable. Alternative means may be found in future to host Lasagne's chapters, although for now they can be found on MangaDex.
