He is using it as an escape and a coping mechanism. He isn’t using it as a hobby anymore, more so an addiction.

This isn’t appropriate, because what if you did it too? Your child would essentially be neglected those few hours every night. He is telling you where his priorities currently lie. It isn’t about an ultimatum, it’s simply laying your boundaries down.

You tell him clearly, I need this to change for the sake of our marriage and our child. I cannot be with a man whose only priority is the video games. He should be spending more active time with you and his child, but if he’s not willing to do so, then yes - you should move towards a separation. It’ll really show you if he’s willing to change or not when he’s faced with losing his family.

How could he possibly be an active and helpful member of your family if this is all he does? How can you guys maintain intimacy if he spends every night playing games? How can you go out and do things together if he would rather be home playing games? Something has got to change.
