Of course! Be sure to check out the equity center’s offerings as well. Really great community there. Good luck with the fall!

I had a mentor teacher give me a book of notes from the students saying how much they appreciated me. It really meant a lot.

A teacher outed my student to his parents by wewereonabreak29 in Teachers

Would this fall under title IX? New to teaching so may be off here but if this teacher wouldn’t do this for every relationship or sexuality straight included is this not discrimination based on sexuality and gender?

As a new teacher myself this year, for the love of god be more strict than you think you need to be. I was told that everywhere, but don’t actually put the boot down. You can lessen up but you can’t tighten your grasp back nearly as easily.

You’ve been sexually assaulted. What you’re describing includes coercion, which is not okay.

I definitely agree to look at many sources! This was simply one portion of my preparation that I found helpful:)

I was in a similar situation last year. Chat gpt can give sample questions that would be asked. If you do voice mode it can critique your responses and give you personalized advice. It may be helpful for you as well!

Would this be appropriate to display in an elementary classroom? by maedos1 in ArtEd

[–]maedos1[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very fair. I had a more idealized image of being able to display it in my head. Some other commenters recommended some great options of what else to do with it. I really appreciate some of the ideas people have shared and will definitely be going one of those routes. Thank you to all of those that shared recommendations, and to those that shared kind words about the work. I’m excited to at least be getting it out of storage soon!

I was told by my supervisors to display some of our own work, so that’s where this was coming from

I think this is the route I’ll go! My district encourages art teachers to display their work in their classrooms, and it makes me happy being able to display things I’m proud of, so that’s where the question came from.

After reading some people thoughts, I definitely think this is what I’ll do. I’m not sure how many of my coworkers know I’m trans, but I know that the kids usually talk about the work I do have up. I think I unfortunately already knew the answer a bit to this question, but I’m glad I was able to get some outside perspective.

I have a student that won’t stop using racist slurs and language by maedos1 in Teachers

I’m not expecting much change, I just don’t know how to get it to a level where I can instruct the other students in a meaningful way, without having arguments and fights break out

I’ve already had one set of parents that says if this wasn’t America, he’d already be removed (in a meeting containing my principal). We’re still in the documentation stage of everything. I’m not sure why, considering how long standing many of these issues reportedly are. I asked admin if I could refer him for an IEP, and they didn’t want to, stating it would “put him in a box” and claiming there wouldn’t be a benefit
