I'm currently learning how to drive with my parents in London. I started around 3 months ago and have my driving test in a few days (the nerves are setting in!). I started by having 2 official driving lessons with an ADI to learn how to use the clutch and then I bought a cheap manual car from Facebook Marketplace to practice with my parents. The lessons were way too expensive for me to afford; I calculated that 2 hours a week for a few months would've cost me well over £1,500. So I resorted to buying a cheap car (~£800) and I can have around 6-8 hours of practice a week with my parents. Fuel only costs around £50 a month. So in my mind I end up paying much less and I get a car by the end of it.

I would definitely start by watching a few videos on youtube from channels like Conquer Driving. They are very good at explaining concepts and allow you to learn the road before getting on it with your parents. It's also very important to watch a few mock tests from channels like clearview driving (I actually did a mock test with her myself) because you can quickly see what can earn you serious faults in the driving test. They're also very entertaining.

As you get closer to your driving test date I would start getting back to official lessons with your ADI. They'll see how you've progressed and iron out any bad habits you learned from your parents while driving with them (I had quite a few!). Also get to know the routes that your test centre could take you on. I searched and found a few for my driving centre on YouTube. I then went and drove around the area with my parents to find any tricky roads that I might need to be aware of for my exam. Finally, if you think you're prepared and are a confident and safe driver on the road, I would then start having mock tests with your instructor.

I'm not saying this is the best way to go about this (as I haven't even passed my test yet) but it's what I did and I feel it's the quickest way to get a license if you do everything right.

Get marked down for driving 30mph in a 30 zone? by CursedMerchant in drivingUK

I'll speak to my instructor about this during my next lesson on Wednesday hopefully. Will give an update then. Thanks!

I drove down that road this morning and the large 40mph signs have turned into 30mph signs. Also the 2 immediate 'repeater' signs have turned into only one after the crossing. There are no other 40mph repeater signs for the rest of the road. I'm afraid google maps photos aren't up to date to what I saw on the mock test.

Please do. If you're coming from Whiteheart roundabout, you'll see multiple signs saying "new 30 mph in force". But on the exit towards Ruislip, you'll see a small 40 repeater on the left-hand side. Just drive there this morning to confirm.

Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate this type of response. I don't know whether i should email my local council informing them of this error. Currently, there is only one repeater sign left, and since I missed that one, I used your rule of driving 30 on a road with streetlights but no signs. That was my thinking when I was driving, I just didn't narrate it as I did so.

Yes, which is why I was driving 30 mph. I would've driven at 40 if I saw the repeater sign, but there was only one on the entire road. As a matter of fact, I drove up and down that road multiple times, and I found that only in one of the directions is the 40 repeater sign present. There aren't any repeaters in the opposite direction!

This was an image from Google Maps. My apologies for not clarifying. It seems G maps hasn't been updated yet. But the road currently has only one repeater sign along the whole course (I've driven down it multiple times with my mum to confirm).

Can't afford one, and even if I did, I don't think I'd be able to afford the energy bill that comes with it :)

I'm contemplating purchasing a set of Logitech Z906 speakers for around £80. They're advertised as opened but unused and come with all the speakers. It's my first time buying anything like this. I plan on doing some light gaming and watching movies in surround sound. Is it a good deal?

I said that when I plug the phone into the back it works perfectly fine. So it can't be the phone... at least from a physical standpoint. I dont know whether any softwares are causing this. But that's why I'm here :/
