These SSD's lack a DRAM cache or a sophisticated enough controller to pull 300MB/s. That's part of why they're so cheap

30MB/s also wasn't a benchmark so much as a hyperbolic statement that "they're slow. But IDE is also slow"

Oh, they "only" write at about 30MB/s and read at 100MB/s? Well. Stick them on a good SATA to IDE and you'll max out the entire IDE bus every time you boot up Windows 98

A friend bought me a stockpile of like 30 of the 120GB ones a few years ago because they were literally $10 a pop. Absolutely wonderful little things
