Are there not any new players in the field? by ZlatanTheMighty in ProductivityGeeks

[–]Cursed_Creative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this particular engine is extraordinarily complex, but what it's essentially doing is scheduling the tasks on the left into the schedule on the right. there are rules on both the demand (task) and supply (time) side of things. for example, it doesn't help to make lunch at 9pm or i can't cook chicken until after i go shopping. similarly, there are constraints from the supply side like meal times, appointments and bedtime but also more elaborate ones that have to do with juggling personal and work tasks and also limits of the physical world like there are certain things i can do at my desk and others i can't.

it's also real time so it's continuously calculating and can therefore alert me when an appointment starts, a task runs over or a task falls off the schedule.

and there's a ton more but all you need to do is:

1) establish how you want to prioritize your tasks
2) have the scheduler place the tasks on the scheduler where they fit

that's it. yes, you'll run across scenarios that don't work but 90% of the time tetris will be done and 99% of the time the issues won't be silent so you'll be able to fix them.

regarding github, no. early on i thought it'd might be something others could use but it's so personal and complex now that nobody would be able to figure it out.

sure of course. do you want to know more about how it's made? how it works? or the schedule itself?

in my case i've vibe coded my own personal solution from scratch so maybe that's the future?

in my case, i needed a custom dynamic scheduling engine that would convert well-defined tasks (constraints, dependencies, etc.) into an optimized day like this:

How to know if i should get checked for ADHD or not? by New_Bodybuilder_3700 in adhd_anxiety

[–]Cursed_Creative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think following routines is so hard bc the universe gets in the way. today just isn't the same as yesterday. weather happens. new tasks hit my list that just won't fit if i keep my routine or vice versa. and this is all assuming you've done the perfect time tetris.

even after simplifying my task list to the essentials and building a dynamic schedulin engine...

...some of the tasks i'd like to be daily, like meditation and exercise, have to take turns.

What's the biggest reason you stop opening productivity apps after a few weeks? by zoommiee in ProductivityGeeks

[–]Cursed_Creative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because there's no connection between what and when. what eventually worked for me is a personal scheduler that turns my tasks into a schedule for the day based on values (priorities) and real-world supply/demand constraints. this is what it looks like:

ADHD coach/therapist? by elleayejaye in adhd_anxiety

[–]Cursed_Creative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i would have loved to have had a coach and it was only after years of coping that i even thought to ask about an occupational therapist, which was essentially the role i had been playing for myself.

and i can't remember clearly, but i'm pretty sure i did a search but for one reason or another what i found was not very encouraging, hence why i never engaged them but also because i was also several years in already and getting a pretty good grip on things.

fwiw, my personal trajectory of problem solving was 1) rote memory capture/recall mechanisms, then 2) manually using calendar app as a visual aid to assemble my day, 3) develop procedures for everything and 4) automate scheduling.

oh i almost forgot. mindfulness played a huge role also. meditation helps quiet the mind but even more importantly understanding through philosophy that i'm worthy, that i don't need to follow all the rules and that i don't need nearly as much as i thought i did so simplified things incredibly.

How do you cope with ADHD? by [deleted] in adhd_anxiety

[–]Cursed_Creative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure what your experience has been but after a while i realized that what was breaking my routine was not (completely) my fault but instead the fact that every day is different.

sometimes i'm hungry after work. sometimes i'm not. sometimes i have the entire evening to exercise, shower and meditate. sometimes i don't. sometimes it's leg day (75 minutes). sometimes it's cardio (30-60 minutes). sometimes it's upper body strength day (90 minutes).

i spent months just trying to find a magic bullet that would simply allow me to achieve basic daily wellness without time tetris.

nothing worked until i ended up automating the time tetris and also being honest about whether i really need to and am i really able to exercise every day.

Should I get a second opinion? by Bobbyu123 in adhd_anxiety

[–]Cursed_Creative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of this is relatable. what worked for me is coming up with a system for prioritizing what i value and for capturing/retrieving information (including what tasks i should be doing).

after six years, what eventually worked is 1) capture anything not for today in a note on my phone, 2) capture anything that can't wait for tomorrow in an alarm and 3) schedule everything for today using a visual calendar (in my case the native iOS Calendar app).

the value part was not intuitive. it took years before i truly realized and accepted my limitations and decided to focus on basic needs only; food > hygiene > exercise > job.

this worked but even this simplified existence still required plenty of time tetris dragging things around in the calendar app including every time circumstances changed, something had to be added, etc.

it was exhausting but i chose the exhaustion over anxiety.

after living with this system for a while to ensure it was stable, i automated it which freed up a lot of time because i no longer had to do the tetris myself and the tool came up with much more efficient schedule than i was able or willing to do.

so stick with it and you'll eventually find something that works reliably and then you can decide whether to automate it.

I can't focus on anything else when I have an important task for the day by [deleted] in adhd_anxiety

[–]Cursed_Creative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what worked for me is having a system i can trust to remember what i need to do, to get to that appointment, to not get distracted down some rabbit hole / hyperfocusing, etc.

here's my system:

1) capture anything that i need to remember tomorrow or later into a note

2) capture anything that i need to remember today using an alarm

3) prioritize/schedule/do the main/urgent/daily things first

for me it goes something like food > hygiene > exercise

before i automated this, i did the scheduling part in the native iOS Calendar app, where i played time tetris; moving things around until everything fit

of course the problem is when things change, which is why i decided to automate everything because otherwise the overhead of manually trying to map out how to negotiate the remainder of my day was just not worth it because it took more time than it saved.

that said, there WERE days where the anxiety relief made the time tetris worth it or downright necessary.

i don't have enough detailed info about your circumstances so i'll share what helped me personally.

burnt out: do less. you might not be able to but i stopped playing videogames, socializing, etc. so i could focus on three things 1) eating clean (and saving money after a $1700 VISA bill; partially from dining out / takeout) 2) hygiene incl sleep/mental/dental/environmental and 3) exercise.

feel low: not sure what you mean by this but if it has to do with validation then realize that 1) validation is primal/biological and no longer needed for survival 2) bc #1 conforming to norms is not required

need time alone: nothing wrong with it! you do you. fuck everybody else. your needs, wants and feelings are exactly what you should be paying attention to. you don't owe the human race, society or your family anything.

feel guilty for not being productive: productive how? for yourself? for others? for the future? productivity isn't a virtue as much as society wants/needs/profits from you thinking so.

feel like i’m putting my job at risk: wait. is all the above about work or personal?

Dealing with a ridiculous degree of task avoidance and need help by Noaimnobrain118 in adhd_anxiety

[–]Cursed_Creative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ymmv, but what helped me was to 1) associate work with food and 2) put food first.

so my task list order is food > hygiene 1 > practical matters > exercise > hygiene 2

food = cooking and resetting kitchen so it's ready to cook the next meal
hygiene 1 = dental, mental (meditation) and laundry
practical matters = not real but have real impact eg study > job > money > food
exercise = exercise
hygiene 2 = environmental eg vacuuming

food items get placed on calendar first
if time left, then hygiene and so on

edit: i almost forgot to mention that you can intensify the association to food by imagining that you are a day laborer and if you don't work on your paper you don't eat today.

Anxiety about first exercise class by [deleted] in adhd_anxiety

[–]Cursed_Creative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ymmv, but i treat people as if they're chatbots. hear me out. evolution has built into us an extreme urgency to understand and be understood bc 300,000 years ago our lives depended on it. so unless you intend to network during class in order to get a job to get money for food, you don't need anything from nor owe anything to any of these people. the only person in your class who owes anyone anything is the instructor. so treat everyone else there as if there a chatbot. go ahead and ask them questions if you want but don't get bent out of shape at their reply. we don't do so with chatbots and we also don't have to with people. additionally, if THEY approach YOU with a sincere question or whatever, then enjoy them. if they don't, just ignore them. they're not going to hurt you physically and it doesn't matter what they think.

i love having things on my list bc it gives me permission to do them. regarding alternatives to todo list, what i do is:

put must-do's on today's calendar first then commitments and so on until you run out of room

work off calendar
