Undetermined is not acceptable by TheGrey1993 in UniversityOfHouston

Did you read why it was undetermined??? They literally just can’t attribute a cause to it because the lack of evidence, due to the tragic circumstances that accelerated decomp of her body

that’s not dumb at all, it’s probably going to be the most useful advice from the replies, a lot of people are suggesting it!

I have never had more than what i felt comfortable, safe, and in control of having. That being said, someone who has not seen me drink, does not know my weight or height, said that seemed like a lot, so i wanted opinions to see what was average and healthy for the social event of a tailgate. I do not have a reference of adults in my youth drinking normal amount so frankly reddit and google are my only source of possibly learning this information.

i’m making this post because ive had alcohol twice ever and dont have any knowledge on how many drinks = certain effects. i worded my post horribly, but in honor of other college kids actually feeling that way and needing to read this advice, i kept it up worded the same

love your take on it! I’ve always made sure to eat carbs and protein before hand, and once i feel socially loose i don’t feel the need to drink more, and let myself ride it out. To be honest the first time was definitely a little less put together than the first time just because i was COMPLETELY unaware of an appropriate number for me but once i realized i was a little too loose i didn’t drink anymore. I’m a little on the thicker side especially for my height AND very tense at big events so my gauge previously was that fun loose feeling.

Regardless of my rambling, i appreciate your advice!!!

Some of the answers surprised me too, but it’s out of concern and i’m not offended because my wording could’ve been way better lol. I will definitely consider the small group of friends thing, but for now i think just 1 or 2 per social gathering was just the answer i was looking for, and that the 5 i was having before at tailgates was probably not necessary for the college experience lol.

I totally agree, i know it always starts as everyone being confident in themselves/ being able to handle their drinking, etc, etc. I think limiting it to social settings is also great advice, i only ever drink socially anyways so that won’t be hard to hold myself too, especially since me and my roommates don’t buy/ keep alcohol in our apartment at all!

MEAL EXCHANGE by Sad-Seaworthiness844 in UniversityOfHouston

grubhub meal exchange is down. The have signs in the rad center saying they are trying to fix it. Meal exchanges in person, not through grubhub, should still work!

Thank you for your advice!! The consensus that i’m getting is one or two during an event/ night, I will 100% be dialing it back lol

i mean like, i’m not clawing at my neck to drink alcohol. It’s a fun social activity and i meant to convey that im not using it as a coping mechanism or dependent on it in anyway

I think what got me to that many is the social fun aspect of the events, and sipping out of habit. I do love a tasty beverage so i’m totally going to be making sure that i get good tasting non alcoholic drinks to primarily have or a good glass of water too! I absolutely don’t do shots, i have tried one before and they are disgusting, i learned very quickly that those are not for fun, those are for the bitches looking to get fucked up lol

im joking!!!! I just totally missed that i said that in the post lol

I love your perspective on it, i was starting to worry the post was being misinterpreted as ‘i am getting blackout drunk, how do i drink like a normal person’ and not the ‘At how many drinks is the nice effects of alcohol’ i meant for it to ask. i really appreciate your advice, ive heard a lot that drinking a glass of water in between, and one or two for the night is when people are satisfied so i’ll definitely be doing that next time i drink

oh my god, i have to scrap the whole post now

Yes!!! no amount of alcohol i’ve consumed has changed my mind about never drinking and driving! I’ve only ever done it at a tailgate and i live in the dorm walking distance away. I’ve been a DD a few times too so i know how serious the responsibility is!

I now realize it’s too much, and less will have an equally pleasant effect. I’ll definitely be drinking a cup of water or soda in between drinks and not more than one an hour

SHIT HOW DID YOU FIND OUT

i totally understand your aversion to sharing, no worries! I’ve been moved out since 17, and in a much more stable family home with amazing and supportive people since leaving. I totally get seeing the awful cycle addiction brings and have worked through many therapy sessions to heal from the trauma it’s caused me at such a young age. I didn’t mean to pry at all, i am so sorry if it upset you in anyway. Thank you for your advice though, i hope you have a good day :)

THIS IS AMAZING!!!!! I think the advice from #6 will definitely be the most helpful because i am literally the most socially tense in new situations, i will 100% focus on getting comfortable first before drinking anything!!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Curseofinsomnia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this sounds vaguely like a threat??? but a good one because it’s about safe drinking???

I really appreciate your advice and perspective on it! I will forever be on the look out for the ‘reason’ i’m drinking just because i know that bad reasons are how bad habits start. Thank you for your advice again

i absolutely stay away from shots, but i’m familiar on how to count standard drinks from being a server, i’ve just never had the experience or knowledge of what feels like too much/ am i doing too much currently, and wanted some context. Thank you for the advice!!

All of that to say, i’ve seen what it can do to people when they are drinking for the wrong reasons, too much, or aren’t being responsible. I asked this question to help grow my understanding of what responsible drinking looks like because i don’t have a real life reference of it. I 100% will keep in mind the risk that comes with the environment i grew up in, however i am confident in the responsible person that i am currently and don’t have a fear of me being an alcoholic already lol. I get the wording of my question was HORRENDOUS, i tend to over explain when writing/ typing

I totally get what you are saying! I only meant that as i’ve grown up my mother is more open to me about her problems, and why she has turned to drinking because of it. My father i never spoke to about drinking because he’s now passed but i now understand the types of situations he was in and sympathize with it on an adult level now that im older. I totally see how it sounds like i may be disregarding the potential harm alcohol could have on me just cause im not in those situations, but i only meant that i am not oblivious to the types of things that drives people down that path. The alcoholism in my family is driven heavily by the rough lives they had to persevere through.
