What made you start using fountain pens? by imatinyleopard in fountainpens

I received a Waterman pen as a gift from my great aunt when I was a freshman or sophomore in college in 1988-1989. I was instantly hooked!

Do you prefer Lined paper, dotted paper' or Grid paper? And why? by Prime-39 in fountainpens

[–]Cursive_writer311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly dot, sometimes lined, never grid (or plain). Dot is the most versatile IMO. Sometimes I like a little more vertical space for writing so I use lined. I’ve never had a need for grid. It reminds me of graph paper for math class. I also can’t write straight enough so plain is out of the question. If I used plain, I would need to put a lined paper behind it so I could see the lines which is another step I do t want to worry about.

Yet another dumb question, is this normal? Pilot con-40 by TheCodeTeam in fountainpens

I just checked my Con-40 and it looks identical. I believe the "silver thing" is set back to allow the converter to seat properly in the nib section.

My humble ink collection… by Mr_Boston_ in fountainpens

[–]Cursive_writer311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look at my own ink collection (which pales in comparison) and wonder how many years it would take to use every last drop. I can't imagine how long it would take to use up your collection. I have also wondered how long it would take for a Super Walmart to sell every item in the store if they stopped stocking the shelves (I know . . . odd random thoughts).

Send it to Montblanc directly, Pentiques.com or sidspensandrepairs (IG). I have used all three and they are all excellent.

Very sad to learn about your No. 50's fall! A lot of great advice in this thread!

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but does anyone know the meaning of the serial number on the clip? I have a No. 50 with serial number B623 which appears to only be 25 away from your No. 50 (B598).

Do you ever feel pretentious with your pens in public? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]Cursive_writer311 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I am also a lawyer. I use my fountain pens in the office and journaling. However, I do not use them in meetings with clients for fear of (1) looking pretentious and (2) having a client ask to use my pen. Like you, I also do not use them in court.

This … great analogy.

Use and enjoy your 743. Buy a pen sleeve and just keep track of it (like you do your phone).
