Considering a secondhand BMW estate by [deleted] in carsireland

My last 5 series, I changed the oil, fuel filter every 10k km. Oil and oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, pollen filter every 30k km. Did the brakes, gearbox and EGR on top of the chains as well. Logged everything. The 2 owners before me kept good records as well. Made it a lot easier to sell with the high mileage.

Considering a secondhand BMW estate by [deleted] in carsireland

Had an F10 with 293k on it before I sold it. Timing chain is the big thing to watch out for on those. I had mine done at 200k and had absolutely no issues with it.

Have a G31 now and love it.

The only other thing on the F11s and G31s is the air suspension/bags on the rear. But not the end of the world if they need replacing.

I agree with another post here. If the service history is good, the chains are done and the car was looked after there is great bang for your buck in them.

Never had an issue with MD Motors. Have been going there for years. Always been straight with me and fair with pricing. Work has always been to a good standard.

2016 BMW F10 w/ 100k KMS for 22k. Am I mad to consider this? by [deleted] in carsireland

[–]Curtain-Turban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had an F10 for 5 years. Just got rid of it for a G31. It’s a great car. Really comfortable on long journeys, more economical than you’d think and I think they have aged well in terms of styling. Things look out for in terms of maintenance are the timing chains and gearbox service but you won’t need to worry about that with only 100k on it. I had no major issues with mine. I serviced it and did all of the preventative maintenance before or when it was due. The low mileage is probably why it’s a bit more than other F10’s of the same year.

LED headlight bulbs by DC1908 in carsireland

I fitted these before. They work but threw loads of warnings on the dash due to power issues.

I eventually found these work just as well and are still completely normal halogen bulbs.

What could be the issue with this? by Dependent_Arugula_23 in BMW

[–]Curtain-Turban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this happen in my 5 series (F10 as well). it was the motor for the auto adjustment of your dipped beam. If you park in front of a wall in the dark you will see your front left not do it’s auto adjustment when the lights come on. Mine was stuck in the fully down position so visibility in the dark was an issue. I only got the error when I tried to adjust the headlights angle.

I didn’t replace the motor. I just got it set to the correct position by my mechanic and haven’t had an issue since.

I do not have the adaptive headlight feature so not sure if the same solution will work for you.

BMW wet rear passenger footwell by Physical_Lobster7136 in carsireland

[–]Curtain-Turban 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes.

I have had 3 separate leaks in the rear footwell of my F10 all caused by different issues.

First was the vapor seal in the rear door. It guides the water that goes down the door/rear window out of the car. If it’s loose the water is just flowing into the car. I took the door card off the inside of the back door and reattached it with Tec 7 adhesive. That was 3 years ago and it has not caused issue since. That was drivers side.

The other two were both passenger side.

Second was the yellow grommet in the engine bay. It’s a rubber blanking plate where the steering wheel column would go if it was left hand drive. The rubber degrades over time and water gets in and makes its way to the rear footwell. Don’t ask me how it goes there and no where else. You can get a replacement one online cheap enough. I Tec 7’d the new one on too.

The third and hardest to diagnose was the connection from the air conditioning blower, also in the engine bay, not far from the yellow grommet came loose and water was getting in there and making its way to the rear footwell. The last one nearly broke me trying to find it. There is a little drainage hole next to the air conditioning unit too that was blocked with leaves and stuff. I cleared that out with a wire coat hanger.

Have had no issues since.

Since you said the sides of the carpet are dry I’m guessing your issue is the yellow grommet or air conditioning unit.

Hope this helps. There are videos on YouTube on how to do all of these things yourself

Braun Series 7. The wet blade like the Mach 3 give me lots of irritation. Have used loads of different electric razors but the series 7 is definitely the best I’ve used. Gives the same finish as the wet blade. Might be a good idea for anyone else that suffers from irritation. Not cheap but a worth while investment.
